Siwalik Fossil Park displays life-size fiberglass models of six of the prehistoric animals that thrived in the area about 1 to 1.5 millions years ago. Stegodon ganesa is one of them, was a giant sized elephant that possessed extraordinarily large-sized pair of tusks attaining length upto about 4.5 meters. It attained a height upto about 4.2 meter and possessed a heavy trunk and massive limb bones.

Siwalik Fossil Park was opened to the public through a ceremony inaugurated by His Excellency, Sh. S. Chakarbarty, the then Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Sh. Y. S. Parmar, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 23rd March, 1974.

Siwalik Fossil Park is one of the rare gifts of nature in Siwalik hills, where the remains of extinct pre-historic animals belonging to Plio-Pliestocene period ( about 2.5 million years ago) have been found preserved as fossils and constitute a rich geological heritage. Life size fibre glass models of prehistoric animals which thrived in the area between 1 and 2.5 millions years ago have been erected by Geological Survey of India (GSI) in this park to recreate the prehistoric period.
