Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film & Television Institute DBHRGFTI is the only institute of its kind in the entire north-eastern region of India.

Jyoti Chitraban Film and Television Institute(JCFTI) was established in1999 by Jyoti Chitraban Film Society, Government of Assam. Government of Assam has bifurcated JCFTI from Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio Society and converted the Institute to a fullfledged Government Institute under the name of "Regional Government Film and Television Institute(RGFTI)
Presently located at Kahilipara, Guwahati, the Institute, the first of its kind in the North Eastern Region, is a excellence for education in film and television programme making.

National Librarians’ Day was celebrated on 12th August,2026 at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI) with great enthusiasm and participation from students and faculty members.

The programme commenced with a floral tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

Thereafter, the invited resource person, Dr. Nabajyoti Das,first Librarian cm Archive Officer of this institute delivered an insightful invited talk on “The Evolving Role of the FTI Library: From Cataloguing to Curating Multimedia Collections and Research Support.” The session was highly informative and provided valuable insights into the changing role of film and television libraries in supporting teaching, learning, research, and creative activities.

The students and faculty members actively participated in the session and gained valuable knowledge about the role, importance, and future possibilities of the FTI Library and Archive. The programme served as an enriching academic experience and highlighted the significance of a specialised library in a Film and Television Institute.
