Assam Climate Change Management Society (ACCMS), Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Government of Assam, in collaboration with WRI India and Vasudha Foundation, organized a Zonal Stakeholder Consultation on District-level GHG Inventorization in Guwahati for district-level officers from concerned line departments of Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, and Tamulpur districts.
The purpose of this consultation was to strengthen the understanding of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories, their methodologies and data sources, and to identify key data gaps and ways to address those gaps to formulate a robust greenhouse gas inventory.
Dr. Satyendra Singh, IFS, Addl. PCCF and Chief Executive Officer, ACCMS, in his special address, spoke about India’s commitment to limiting the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity of its economy. He emphasized that the development of a greenhouse gas inventory would be instrumental in assessing progress toward this commitment and in supporting micro-level climate action planning.
Dr. Rizwan Uz Zaman, Technical Consultant, ACCMS, underscored the importance of district-level GHG inventorisation in facilitating bottom-up, climate-responsive planning and strengthening governance in Assam.
The consultation included technical sessions on district-level GHG inventory frameworks, and the role of inventories in evidence-based mitigation planning. Sector-wise discussions focused on data requirements and gaps across Energy, Waste, Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU), and Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU).
