Solidarity in Action!
Dhanak of Humanity recently conducted a Solidarity Visit in Baghpat, standing with families and loved ones of victims of honour killings.
Our team met the families, listened to their stories, and extended our support during this time of grief. We also made a formal representation to the DM and SP of Baghpat, urging for justice, accountability, and stronger action against such crimes.
Case 1: Shivani & Ankit (Lohari Village, Baghpat) Shivani and Ankit had been in a relationship for over a year despite family disapproval. A panchayat declared their relationship unacceptable, after which Shivani was allegedly killed by her parents and relatives the same evening. Four family members have since been jailed, while Ankit and his family continue to face threats and pressure from the panchayat to withdraw the case, forcing them to live in fear and away from their home.
Case 2: Saniya & Sagar (Paladi, Chhaprauli, Baghpat) Saniya, from a Muslim Jat landowning family, was killed after her relationship with Sagar, a young man from a Harijan family, came to light. The case reflects deep caste and class divides within the village community. Six members of SaniyaтАЩs family are currently in jail without bail.
Case 3: Drishti & Balram (Baraut, Baghpat)
Balram, aged 17, was allegedly murdered along with Drishti by her family. The accused include DrishtiтАЩs parents, brother, uncle, and cousin, some of whom remain in custody. BalramтАЩs family denies any love affair between the two and suspects another hand behind the killings, questioning the strength of the narrative presented. They continue to pursue justice, with DrishtiтАЩs father, brother, and cousin presently in jail.
This visit was not just about raising a voiceтАФit was about standing together, reminding society that love should never cost lives. тЬКтЭдя╕П
