The Military Nursing Service (MNS), the only all women corps in the Indian Armed Forces, will be celebrating its 96th Raising Day on 1st October, 2021.
For a soldier, being fit and healthy is paramount. But when laid by injuries or ill health, nursing care provided by Military Nursing Service (MNS) officers, dubbed the 'healing angels in uniform' help him get fighting fit again
โOn this remarkable day, all nursing officers rededicate themselves to render high quality, selfless nursing care to their patients by reading the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
In 1893, the organisation was designated as the Indian Army Nursing Service (IANS) and in 1902, it was renamed as the Queen Alexandra Military Nursing Service (QAMNS). On 1st October 1926, a permanent nursing service for the troops was formed and designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service (IMNS). The IMNS made humble beginning and their work was universally acclaimed. On September 15, 1943, the IMNS officers became a part of the Indian Army and the members of service became Commissioned Officers.
The MNS crest has a distinct significance and function. It is golden metallic, oval shaped with the Ashoka chakra in the centre signifying world peace and good will. The credo of the MNS mission is โExcellence in Patient Careโ during war, peace, counter insurgencies, disaster and any other national need and UN Mission.
