A grand inauguration ceremony for a special five-day course—aimed at exploring the rich culture and linguistic heritage of Sikkim—was held today, June 1, 2026, at the premises of the 13th Battalion, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), under the aegis of the Sector Headquarter (Gangtok). The ceremony was presided over by Shri Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Deputy Inspector General, Sector Headquarter (Gangtok). A total of 40 participants from units under the administrative control of the Sector Headquarter (specifically the 11th, 13th, 48th, and 63rd Battalions) are participating in this course. The course is being conducted by Shri Palzor Namgyal Lepcha and Ms. Banita Lagun from the Department of Culture, Government of Sikkim.
2. The objective of this course is to provide ITBP personnel posted in Sikkim with comprehensive knowledge regarding the state's unique cultural identity, local languages, traditional customs, cuisine, and attire, thereby enabling them to discharge their duties seamlessly. The course focuses primarily on the linguistic diversity, historical significance, and unique lifestyles of Sikkim's three major communities: the Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali.
3. Shri. Sunil Kandpal, Commandant of the 13th Battalion, along with other senior officers, was also present at the aforementioned inauguration ceremony.
