Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India invited us to speak at a Panel Discussion for the Induction Program of the commencing batch of students.
We represented Divyangdost Foundation in the capacity of a young student led social enterprise.
At the panel, we got an opportunity to discuss the pressing concerns of a growing social enterprise and gained several insights from fellow panelists.
This was a massive learning platform for us to develop a roadmap and milestones to achieve the DDF vision.

About a year ago, Divyangdost Foundation was selected among 11 other startups nationally for the Ashoka Foundation Youth Venture Programme. Our team pitched the vision of DDF in its nascent stages at the induction program in Bangalore.
Divyangdost Foundation was the youngest start-up to compete for the fellowship program and although we couldn't enroll into the fellowship, the mentors at the program believed in our vision.
Many of the mentors from then are still in touch with us today to mentor us as we continue on the path to achieve social inclusiveness for Divyangs.

Naman Parikh, founder of Divyangdost Foundation was one of the finalists selected from all over India to present a pitch about the vision of our organization at the Student Startup Innovation Policy International Meet at EDII in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in June this year.
The platform provided Divyangdost Foundation a stage to be recognized as an organization with an innovative concept to address a pressing concern in the world of differently abled individuals i.e. Divyangs.
Our idea got a very positive response from the dignitaries who were present at the event and we received some exceptional feedback to improve and further our cause.
What do you think is the biggest concern Divyangs are facing today? Write in the comments below.

There are several apps that are brought in the market every day to make lives of Divyangs easier.
Talkitt is an app that helps identify indistinguishable speech into proper spoken langauge for communication.
Pedius app allows deaf people to make phone calls without any assistance. Sounds impossible? It really isn’t.
Be my eyes allows visually impaired people to take assistance from volunteers for tasks they aren’t able to do regularly. An initiative that support our cause of inclusion through empathy and friendship.
Look at Me is an app that helps autistic children with their socialization skills by improving eye contact.
With so many apps already available in the market, all that is required is to spread awareness about them so that more and more Divyangs can take advantage of such technology.

The most revolutionary technology in the world for visually impaired right now is this. eSight electronic glasses actually help legally blind people see everything.

The technology works like normal glasses and can restore sight. This is indeed a breakthrough that’s inaccessible to so many visually impaired individuals because of the 10,000$ price tag on it.

This is because such technology access is never covered in health insurance. Maybe a change in policies for Divyangs and cheaper technology can make no visual impairment a reality.

Divyangdost Foundation is working towards making this a reality. Do you want to be a part of the change as well? Sign up with us.

Utensil stabilizing handles for people who have uncontrolled hand tremors are made by companies like Liftware. Such devices ensure that people who are suffering from conditions such as cerebral palsy can handle daily tasks like lifting a spoon and eating their own meals independently.

Such technologies ensure that despite movement disability Divyangs do not face any challenge in performing daily activities. However, currently such technologies are not available to individuals across the globe and especially in developing countries.

Divyangdost Foundation aims to bridge this technology inaccessibility for Divyangs across the world. Join hands with us to make this goal a reality.

A spinal cord injury takes a long time for rehabilitation. Becoming wheelchair bound can be completely demotivating for an individual, which becomes the number one reason for failure of serious rehabilitation cases.

However, exoskeletons that are powered by electric motors are highly useful to speed up the recovery. They take up the weight of the entire body of the individual while facilitating the movement.

This ensures that the rehabilitation injuries are drastically reduced and the process becomes faster. But, due to the complex engineering and technology, these exoskeletons are not affordable to all Divyangs yet.

Help Divyangdost Foundation change this by contributing to our cause.

For epileptic patients the most common injury causing phenomenon is a seizure. For children this can become worse. Students at Rice University in Texas developed Seizure Monitoring and Response Transducer (SMART) belt to detect any changes in skin conductivity and breathing to send a message to guardians or family when the person is about to have a seizure, thus helping them take necessary precautions.
This is especially useful for kids having seizures so that their parents can take immediate necessary action, thus avoiding the risk of injury for the child.
There are several such innovations happening in schools and universities across the world for disability assistive devices.
Divyangdost Foundation aims to become the centralized system where all of these technologies are accessible to all Divyangs.

Walking sticks with obstacle detectors are common, but companies like Kapten have taken it a step further.
There are GPS navigation units like Kapten Plus available to help visually impaired individuals navigate on their own around their local neighborhoods.
The units have other built in facilities like radio, speaker, recorder etc.

However, like a lot of other high end technology available today, such devices cost almost 300$, making them completely unaffordable for individuals in developing countries or those forming the middle class of such countries.

Having a platform like Divyangdost Foundation that can connect donors and recipients of technologies, can ensure that such technology reaches those who need it the most.
