India witnesses a poignant milestone in its medical and legal history.
Harish Rana, the country’s first patient to receive court-sanctioned passive euthanasia, passed away today at 4:10 PM at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
He had been under the care of the Palliative Oncology Unit (IRCH), led by Dr Seema Mishra, where he was supported with dignity and compassion in his final journey.
His case remains a defining moment in India’s evolving discourse on end-of-life care, patient autonomy, and the right to die with dignity.
Heartfelt condolences to his family and all those who stood by him.
