A conference of State Minorities Commissions was organised today by the National Commission for Minorities. The event witnessed the gracious presence of Shri Kiren Rijiju, Hon’ble Minister of Minority Affairs; Shri George Kurian, Hon’ble Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri Danish Azad Ansari, Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Muslim Waqf, and Haj, Uttar Pradesh; Mohammad Zama Khan, Hon’ble Minister of Minority Welfare, Bihar; Shri Hafizul Hassan, Hon’ble Minister of Minority Welfare cm Water Resources Department, Jharkhand; Shri Mohammad Azharuddin, Hon’ble Minister for Minorities Welfare and Public Enterprises, Telangana; Smt. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, National Commission for Minorities; Dr Atya Nand, Joint Secretary, National Commission for Minorities; and other dignitaries.
The inaugural session witnessed insightful addresses by senior officials and dignitaries, underlining the importance of inclusive growth, empowerment and collaborative progress for minority communities. Officials from different State Minorities Commissions and representatives from different societies for minority communities shared their ideas and discussed welfare schemes so that communities could benefit further.
The event also featured a short film on the National Commission for Minorities and the release of compendia on Buddhism, Jainism and Parsi communities. Further sessions throughout the day will focus on the role of minorities in nation-building, the functioning of State Minorities Commissions and the sharing of best practices by States and UTs.
