📢 Population Census 2027: A New Era Begins

Today, ( June 2, 2026) District Commissioner, Chirang, Shri Madhu Sudan Nath, IAS, unveiled the official Census 2027 mascots — Pragati and Vikas — symbolising the equal participation of women and men in building a developed India by 2047.

District-Level Training Programme on Houselisting Operation and Housing Census Under Census 2027 Inaugurated in Chirang

A three-day District-Level Training Programme on the Houselisting Operation (HLO) and Housing Census under Census 2027 (Phase-I), Assam, commenced today at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Chirang. The programme is scheduled to continue till June 3, 2026.
The training programme has been organised with the objective of familiarising participating officers and officials with the concepts, procedures, and operational guidelines relating to the Houselisting Operation and Housing Census, which constitute the first phase of Census 2027. The sessions cover a wide range of topics including census methodology, enumeration procedures, data collection protocols, and the roles and responsibilities of the various functionaries involved in the census exercise.
Officers and officials from different departments and administrative units of the district are attending the programme, which aims to ensure effective, accurate, and uniform implementation of census activities across the district. For the purpose of conducting the census, Chirang district has been divided into six Census Charge Centres. Of these, three are located in rural areas Bijni, Sidli and Bengtol.— while the remaining three fall under urban areas, namely Bijni, Basugaon, and Kajalgaon.

Training has been imparted by Smt. Pranati Medhi, Deputy Director of Census, and Sri Harbinda Boro, DPA (B), who have been instrumental in guiding the participants through the various operational and technical aspects of the Houselisting Operation and Housing Census.

World No To***co Day (WNTD) 2026 was observed at Dhaligaon High School, Chirang, under the theme “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne & To***co Addiction.” The programme was attended by Shri Madhusudan Nath,IAS, District Commissioner, Chirang, as the Chief Guest, along with the Joint Director of Health Services (Jt. DHS), Chirang, Secretary, DLSA, Senior Agricultural Development Officer, Assistant Inspector of Schools, officials from the District Social Welfare Office, District To***co Office, District Immunization Office, health personnel, teachers, and students.

The observance featured a series of awareness and outreach activities aimed at educating participants about the harmful effects of to***co and ni****ne use. An awareness meeting was conducted, emphasizing the health risks associated with to***co consumption and the importance of adopting a to***co-free lifestyle. An open quiz competition was organized to enhance students’ knowledge of to***co control and encourage active participation in public health initiatives. The programme concluded with an awareness rally, in which students, teachers, and health officials took part enthusiastically, spreading the message of to***co prevention and healthy living throughout the community.

A meeting regarding Right of Way (RoW) issues at 61 locations under the 400 KV Alipurduar to Barnagar Transmission Line project in Chirang district was held today on 29th May, 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Chirang under the chairmanship of Shri Madhu Sudhan Nath, IAS, District Commissioner, Chirang.

The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Executive Members, BTC, Hon’ble MLAs of 19 Sidli (ST) LAC and 20 Bijni LAC, Senior Superintendent of Police, Additional District Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, Circle Officers of Bijni, Sidli Revenue Circles, officers of line departments and other dignitaries.

Various issues relating to land, Right of Way (RoW) clearances and coordination for smooth implementation of the transmission line project were discussed in detail during the meeting. The chair emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination and timely resolution of issues for successful ex*****on of the project in the greater public interest.

Today, on 25th May, 2026, the last day of the Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan under Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026, themed “Sabse Door, Sabse Pehle”, was successfully conducted at Shyamthaibari VCDC of Sidli-Chirang Development Block, and at Koilamoila village under Koilamoila VCDC of Borobazar Development Block in Chirang district.

The programme featured activities such as Jana Sunwai and Medical Camps aimed at strengthening grassroots participation and enhancing public service delivery in remote areas.

During the outreach programme, Block Development Officers, officials from various line departments, and field-level functionaries interacted directly with local residents, disseminated information regarding various government schemes and welfare initiatives, and addressed public grievances and local issues through community engagement.

Under the Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026, the Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan themed “Sabse Door, Sabse Pehle” was conducted today at Chamugaon Village under Mongolian VCDC of Borobazar Development Block and Nadhiapara under Dangaigaon VCDC of Manikpur Development Block in Chirang district.

As part of the programme, activities such as Jana Sunwai, Transect Walk, Medical Camp, and Agriculture Camp were organized to strengthen grassroots engagement and public service delivery.

The meeting focused on planning, implementation and monitoring of various road safety measures aimed at reducing road accidents and fatalities across the district.
