10 genuine questions for JKNC and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve clear answers to before the proposed NC protest for restoration of Statehood in New Delhi:
1. What exactly does the NC leadership mean by “restoration of Statehood”? Does the party seek restoration of the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir that acceded to the Union of India under the Instrument of Accession, or does it seek a newly constituted State under a fresh reorganisation framework?
2. If the demand is for a fresh State under a new constitutional arrangement, would that not weaken the future case for restoration of Article 370 and the pre-2019 constitutional position? Does the party seek restoration of Article 370, Article 371-type safeguards, or only Statehood?
3. Are these protests also intended to challenge the constitutional changes introduced in August 2019? If so, how does the NC reconcile this position while governing under the framework of the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019?
4. Beyond protests, does the NC intend to challenge the J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019 before the Supreme Court or pursue any other constitutional remedy?
5. What concrete outcomes does the party expect from this protest? Is the objective symbolic political messaging, or will the party seek a formal assurance, timeline, dialogue mechanism, or parliamentary commitment from the Union Government?
6. Has the party prepared a formal framework document or proposal for presentation to the Government of India? If yes, what are its key constitutional, political, and administrative demands?
7. Has the NC sought formal meetings with the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, or leaders of major national parties to advance the Statehood demand?
8. Will this remain a one-day protest, or is it the beginning of a sustained political movement if no immediate response is received?
9. What specific role will NC MPs play inside Parliament beyond demonstrations and public statements outside it?
10. Does the party intend to build a broader constitutional and political consensus with regional and national parties on the future of Jammu & Kashmir? Will the INDIA bloc be part of that effort?
These questions are not intended to question the leadership's intentions but to seek clarity on the vision, roadmap, strategy, and constitutional position behind the proposed Statehood movement.
