Realising the vision of Universal Health Coverage through PM-JAY!!
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, India's flagship healthcare program, is achieving far more than its primary goal, transforming India's Health paradigm.
An article by Shri BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, and Dr. Shashank Shah, Senior Specialist, NITI Aayog, demonstrates that India's largest Government-funded Health Scheme, PM-JAY, witnessed a remarkable 35% decrease in loan delinquency rates across districts implementing the scheme.
PM-JAY covers 500 million beneficiaries from economically vulnerable households identified through the Socio-Economic and Caste Census with a ₹5 Lakh annual coverage per family. Its cashless and paperless model covers 1,350 medical procedures implemented through an extensive network of 30,529 empaneled hospitals. PM-JAY, in last 7 years, has authorized over 83.9 million hospital admissions worth ₹1.16 trillion.
The recent extension of the scheme to all citizens above 70 years in age will benefit an additional 60 million individuals and bridge the gap in healthcare coverage. PM-JAY is fundamentally transforming the financial resilience of Indians, creating a silent ripple effect throughout the economy.
