India, the largest exporter of gherkins in the world, faces a significant challenge due to fruit fly infestations, particularly from species like Zeugodacus cucurbitae and occasionally Dacus ciliatus. Detecting these pests in harvested gherkins can be difficult, especially at early stages. To address this issue, Wide Mobility Mechatronics Pvt Ltd, a startup has developed CONRAD-G. This innovative X-Ray based inspection machine, as explained by founder Mr. Shekhar Basavanna, can detect ovipositional and feeding injuries caused by fruit flies and pneumatically separate infested gherkins from the healthy ones. This solution ensures pest-free gherkins for export, setting a new standard in plant protection and export inspection technology. Rashvee IPRS International Phytosanitary Research & Services is set to collaborate on the entomological dimensions of this innovative project, bringing together expertise and technology to push the boundaries of agricultural pest detection.

AVIAN Trust Seminar and Awards Ceremony 2024
AVIAN Trust, founded by a group of dedicated naturalists and environmentalists, aims to enhance human resource capacity in agriculture, nature conservation and safe pest management interventions. One of the key strategies in achieving this goal is by recognizing and rewarding contributions in these fields. Over the past two years (2022 and 2023), deserving candidates have been honored with mementos and certificates. This initiative by AVIAN Trust has significantly fostered greater commitment to biological sciences among students, scientists and officials. We are pleased to announce that our next award ceremony will be held on 21 December 2024. There will be three categories: Outstanding Environmentalist Award for above 40 years, and Rising Star Environment Award for below 40 years Junior Environmentalist Award for students.

Greening Post Green Revolution: A Sustainable Future
Evidence of Thrust on Green Agri-Inputs
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson in 1962 prompted the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which still kept insecticides in forefront. However, in the last two decades, bioresources have steadily integrated into agriculture.
