“Parashat Devarim, which we read this Shabbat, opens with an extraordinary moment. The people of Israel finally stand ready to enter the Land of Israel, but at that celebratory moment, Moshe doesn’t deliver a victory speech. When he reviews 40 years of journeying in the desert, he speaks of successes but also of the great failure: the sin of the spies.

Why does Moshe bring up this failure at this moment? Why ruin the atmosphere?

Because Torah teaches us that we can’t whitewash failures. To truly repair things, we have to look truth in the eyes and take responsibility. That’s how real leadership behaves. That’s how we’ll repair Israel - together. Shabbat Shalom.”

“10 minutes after our Government of Repair is sworn in, we will establish a State Commission of Inquiry. We will hold an immediate meeting, pass this decision and move on to the next set of repairs.

Since October 7th, Hila Abir, whose brother Lotan z”l was murdered at the Nova Festival, and Reut Recht Edri, whose son Ido z”l was also murdered at the Nova Festival, among the co-founders of the October Council, have worked on behalf of the families of those murdered and the hostages. Where the state did not function and provide support, they stood up.

Yesterday, Hila and Reut came to B’Yachad’s headquarters to have me sign the October Council's pledge committing to establishing a State Commission of Inquiry.

Let me say clearly to the families of those murdered, to the residents of the Gaza Envelope and the north, to our reservists and to all citizens of Israel: we will fix this. We will get the answers we deserve.

This will be the first government decision we pass together– and it will happen soon.”

“There is only one way to bring the ultra-Orthodox ‘under the stretcher’ with us, and it has never been tried. It is very simple: Cut off the money.

Those who choose not to serve the state– will not receive a shekel from the state. Nothing.

No daycare subsidies, no Yeshiva student allowances, no discounts on municipal taxes, no funding for educational institutions that raise a new generation to say “we’d rather die than enlist.”

This is the ironclad rule: if it’s not Zionist - it’s not at taxpayers’ expense.

No “30% exemptions” and no other shady deals. No compromising on Israel’s security. That is our plan.
And this is the result it will bring:
Shutting off the funding tap will lead our ultra-Orthodox brothers to enter the labor market, send their children to Mamlachti-Haredi educational institutions where they do teach core subjects and Zionism, and also to enlist more and more in the IDF.

We will help them with the process of weaning themselves off of free money and save them from a life of dependence on dealmakers and politicians who exploit them.

We will assist with vocational training, appropriate enlistment into the IDF and excellent Mamlachti-Haredi schools.

We will not compromise on this– because it is the only way to save Israel.”

“Since I served as Commander of the Etzion Brigade, for over twenty years, I have come every year to speak to the students at Yeshivat Har Etzion ahead of their enlistment into the IDF.

As with every visit there, this time too I met young people who are motivated to serve and contribute to the country. We talked about October 7th, the meaning of taking responsibility, and the obligation to rush into any situation in which Israelis are in danger.

Against the backdrop of the despicable draft evasion laws, the motivation of these students proves: It is possible to combine a religious lifestyle, religious studies and meaningful service in the IDF.

The Har Etzion Yeshiva, headed by my friend Rabbi Medan, is a model of Zionism, love of the Land of Israel, and contributing to the country.”
