The Government Press Office (GPO) is responsible – on behalf of the Prime Minister's Office – for coordination between the Government of Israel and the community of journalists and media personnel working in Israel. For the foreign press corps, the GPO serves as the central address for contact with the government and the Israel Defense Forces. The GPO works to facilitate appropriate media coverage

of key elements in Israel, state visits and foreign VIPs visiting Israel. The GPO issues press cards for permanently stationed and visiting journalists, as well as a range of cards for other media personnel (broadcast technicians, documentary film producers, media assistants, etc.). The GPO offers media representatives a sophisticated briefing room, television studio and professional support materials. The GPO is equipped to operate in Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian, thanks to the professional staff in its various departments. The GPO regularly monitors articles in the overseas press regarding the State of Israel and forwards a daily summary to the relevant Government offices. It also distributes daily summaries – in English – of the main items in the Hebrew-language press to foreign correspondents stationed in Israel. The GPO Photography Department is responsible for photographing the President and Prime Minister at official events and press conferences in Israel and abroad. The Photography Department also manages the National Photo Collection, which includes tens of thousands of photographs starting from before the establishment of the state up to the present. By virtue of a Government decision, the National Photo Collection was opened in 2011 for free use at http://www.gpo.gov.il

*President Isaac Herzog: "I am horrified by yet another violent attack on Jews in broad daylight on the streets of London."*

President Isaac Herzog:

“I am horrified by yet another violent attack on Jews in broad daylight on the streets of London. We are praying for a speedy recovery for all those injured.

“Let me be clear: No Jew anywhere in the world should be a target because of their faith. In one of the great capital cities of the West, it has become dangerous to openly walk the streets as a Jew. This is an unacceptable situation. The British government and authorities must take urgent and immediate action before the next antisemitic attack occurs.

“We have raised the alarm over the rise in global antisemitism again and again. It's time for the world to wake up and fight this vicious wave of Jew hatred with all possible means. We in Israel will not stay silent as our Jewish sisters and brothers are threatened and attacked around the world.”

*Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "At the request of my friend, President Trump, with whom we have changed the Middle East and achieved tremendous accomplishments, we have agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon. At his request, we will provide an opportunity to advance an integrated diplomatic and military solution with the Lebanese government."*

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this afternoon (Friday, 17 April 2026) [translated from Hebrew]:

People ask me: 'What have we accomplished in the north?' And my answer is: We have brought about monumental achievements.

There were two threats emanating from Lebanon, a near threat and a distant threat:

The near threat: The infiltration of thousands of terrorists into our territory and anti-tank fire toward our communities.

The distant threat, which Nasrallah had built over years: The firing of 150,000 missiles and rockets intended to destroy Israel's cities.

We have removed both of these threats.

Now, look at what we have done: For the first time, we created a deep security buffer zone along the entire northern border. Not just in Lebanon; along the entire Lebanese border up to Mount Hermon, through the Golan Heights, and down to the Yarmouk. They wanted to surround us with a ring of fire; we created a ring of security.

This buffer zone completely removes the near threat of invasion and anti-tank fire. The IDF is stationed there, at the 'Yellow Line', to continue defending against the near threat.

Regarding the distant threat, we have destroyed 90% of the missile and rocket stockpiles that Nasrallah built. We eliminated Nasrallah himself. We stunned them with the pagers. We eliminated thousands of terrorists.

The Hezbollah of today is a shadow of its former self compared to the boastful days of Nasrallah. But I say honestly: We have not yet finished the job. There are things we plan to do regarding the remaining rocket threat and the drone threat, which I will not detail here.

However, we have an additional goal, and that is the dismantling of Hezbollah. Therefore, I tell you again in all honesty: This will not be achieved tomorrow. It requires sustained effort, patience, and endurance, and it requires wise navigation of the diplomatic field.

At the request of my friend, President Trump, with whom we changed the Middle East and brought about tremendous achievements, we agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon. At his request, we will give an opportunity to promote an integrated political and military solution with the Lebanese government.

And I remind you, for the first time in 43 years, representatives of the State of Israel are speaking directly with representatives of Lebanon. The road to peace is still long, but we have begun it.

One of our hands holds a weapon; our other hand is extended in peace.

In one way or another, we will restore security to the residents of the north, and with G-d's help, we will act and we will succeed."

*Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Statement on Lebanon and Iran*

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this evening (Thursday, 16 April 2026) [translated from Hebrew]:

"We have an opportunity to forge a historic peace agreement with Lebanon. President Trump intends to invite me and the President of Lebanon in order to try to advance this agreement.

This opportunity exists because, since the 'War of Redemption,' we have fundamentally changed the balance of power in Lebanon. We activated the pagers; we eliminated the massive arsenal of 150,000 rockets and missiles that Nasrallah prepared to destroy Israel’s cities. We eliminated Nasrallah. This balance has shifted to such an extent that over the past month, we began receiving calls from Lebanon to hold direct peace talks between us. This is something that hasn't happened in over 40 years. I answered that call, and I agreed to a timeout, or more accurately, a temporary ten-day ceasefire, to try and advance the agreement we began discussing during the meeting of ambassadors in Washington.

We have two fundamental demands for these peace talks: First, the disarmament of Hezbollah. Second, a sustainable peace agreement, peace through strength. To achieve this ceasefire, Hezbollah insisted on two conditions: First, that Israel must withdraw from all Lebanese territory, back to the international border. Second, a ceasefire based on the 'quiet for quiet' model. I agreed to neither of these, and indeed, those two conditions are not being met.

We are remaining in Lebanon in a reinforced security buffer zone. This is not the 'five points' that existed before 'Roaring Lion.' This is a security buffer that starts at the sea and continues to Mount Dov and the foothills of Mt. Hermon, up to the Syrian border. This is a security strip ten kilometers deep, which is much stronger, more intense, more continuous, and more solid than what we had previously. That is where we are and we are not leaving. This allows us, first and foremost, to block the danger of an invasion into our communities, and secondly, it allows us to prevent direct anti-tank fire into the communities. The residents are now protected from these two dangers. Of course, there are still problems; They still have rockets left. We will have to deal with that as well, as part of the progress toward a security agreement and a continuous peace treaty.

But there is something else, and I want to tell you what it is. I have spoken with President Trump over these last two days, and he told me he is tremendously determined to continue the naval blockade and to bring about the dismantling of Iran's nuclear capability, what remains of it. He is not giving up on this. He is certain he can eliminate this threat once and for all, continuing the great things we have done together. Of course, we will also handle the missile threat and the enrichment capability. I will not elaborate. These are two very important moves that can fundamentally change our security and diplomatic situation for years to come. With G-d's help, we will act, and with G-d's help, we will succeed."
