𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗦: We love what we do in Odyssey Social Care, but we also know the value of switching off.

The team from Slieve View Lodge in Mitchelstown recently availed of our Social Fund to enjoy what Deputy Manager Sinead describes as a highly entertaining night out — a meal in the Mardyke in Cork, a two-hour karaoke session, and then dancing in the city!

The fun-loving Carrig Lodge crew in Co. Wexford also gathered for a weekend meal outside of their Wellingtonbridge workplace and made an extended Saturday evening of it. “We had a ball!” said Deputy Manager Carly.

As if we were in any doubt! Well deserved everyone.

Two of our exceptional team members in Co. Cork marked five years of positive impact and career growth with Odyssey in September.

💎 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 has been a mainstay at Slieveview Lodge throughout that time. Having started as a Social Care Worker, she progressed through the ranks and stepped into the role of Acting Deputy Manager this year.

“Sinead’s practice is defined by how much she cares,” says Slieveview Social Care Manager Liam Boland.

“Anyone can say they care, but Sinead has shown it countless times, often ringing or messaging about different activities and opportunities for the young people to engage with that she has come across, even when she is off; always volunteering to go and create experiences and memories with them, and being willing to come in and help out when things are difficult.

“Sinead has always had this ability to go above and beyond for the young people. She is beloved by everyone in Slieveview because of this trait and she is a great support and resource for her co-workers also. Sinead sets and drives the standard here and we are very lucky to have her with us.”

💎 𝗢𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗲 started with Odyssey as a Relief team member in 2020. He became a Social Care Worker the following September and was promoted to Social Care Leader in 2024.

Omo is proof that a social care degree is not essential, having used transferable skills gained through a BA in Psychology & Sociology, along with hands-on experience, to progress professionally.

Unit Manager Kirsty Murphy speaks glowingly of the contribution he has made since Barra Lodge opened in July 2024.

“Omo has been instrumental to the stabilisation of the service and more importantly the sibling group in his care. He is always conscious of providing an active and homely environment for the young people in Barra Lodge.

“His dedication has positively impacted all five children in our care, and he has built beautiful trusting relationships with them all.

“Omo goes above and beyond for Barra and has been an excellent role model on the floor for everyone he’s worked with as part of the team here. Omo, we are so happy to have you — thank you for all that you do.”
