Next Thursday, 15th October at 7pm, is the annual Wave of Light and, as with previous years, I’ll be hosting a candlelight vigil at the Carrickmacross Civic Offices/Library (from 7-7.30pm).
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Each year, on 15th October, the Global Wave of Light takes place, with candles, monuments, landmarks, and buildings around the world illuminated at 7.00 pm in blue and pink to remember babies who have died. Where only one colour is possible, purple is also used.
By lighting buildings and landmarks in blue and pink, it helps to spark conversations about baby loss while giving bereaved parents and families the opportunity to remember and talk about their precious babies.
Monaghan County Council have been supporting the lighting of buildings, for the Wave of Light, since 2019 on foot of a request I made on behalf of Feileacain and our caretaking staff always ensure our buildings are lit up to mark the date.
If you, or someone you know, has lost a baby during pregnancy or in infancy, please feel free to join us in remembering them together on Thursday evening next. Carrickmacross Library
