Our guests discuss what happens when someone attends a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) and the importance of providing compassionate, trauma-informed care.
The conversation highlights the range of supports available, what individuals can expect during their visit and how specially trained staff work to ensure people feel safe, informed and supported throughout their care. A new joint initiative in Co Kilkenny is helping older people maintain their independence by allowing them to try practical aids in their own homes.
The ‘Handy Helps’ collection, a collaboration between HSE South East Primary Care Occupational Therapy and Kilkenny County Library Service, was recently launched at Loughboy Library.
The collection provides access to a range of carefully selected aids and gadgets designed to make everyday activities easier.
Organised into 3 themed packs, the collection consists of Culinary Aids, Mobility Aids and Social Aids. Each pack contains a number of items that can be borrowed as a single unit for up to eight weeks, allowing people to try the aids in their own homes and see which are most useful to them.

“We’re incredibly proud to have funded this Sensory Room and we hope it becomes a place where children can feel calmer, safer and more comfortable during their time in hospital” said Emer Kelly, Director and Co-founder of the 'Juniors for Juniors' Foundation, at the launch of the new Sensory Room in University Hospital Waterford.

The Sensory Room features a range of equipment and furnishings, including a bubble tube, projected screens, fibre optic tubes and an interactive 3D monitor. The equipping was made possible with the generous sponsorship of the ‘Juniors for Juniors’ Foundation.
