This year’s Architecture at the Edge festival theme ‘Le Chéile – the Architectures of Belonging’, perfectly captures the spirit of our vernacular built heritage; Menlo in Galway City is a such a place.

We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s festival, and in the spirit of this year’s theme, we will be hosting a community drop in event at Tigh Páidín, a vernacular community space in Menlo.

We invite you to come along, whether you live in or outside of Menlo, to learn about the area’s rich built heritage. We also hope to gather information, photos and stories to inform our Menlo Vernacular Heritage Survey, so if you can contribute please do pop in.

Venue: Tigh Páidín (H91 YW9W)

2 - 5pm, Saturday 19 September 2026

FREE entry - All are welcome, no booking required

More info about the Vernacular Heritage Survey of Menlo:

Galway City Council have commenced Phase 1 of a Vernacular Heritage Survey of Menlo, a vernacular settlement to the north west of Galway City.

The survey will focus on revisiting and resurveying dwellings that were recorded by UCD Architecture students in 1944. The survey will utilise these drawings and mapping, which are held by the National Museum of Ireland, as a baseline to undertake the reassessment of Menlo’s vernacular heritage.
