AIA-Robert Emmet Coiste Anti-Imperialist Action South Dublin Coiste for National Liberation & Socialist Revolution

29/09/2026

As day three of the defence of the Garvaghy Road begins, Anti Imperialist Action Ireland reiterates our continuing support for the residents.

We commend Brendán MacCionnaith and the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition for their strength, courage and determination in opposing the Orange Order invading their community and for resisting the pressure being applied on them by British Imperialism, their Loyalist Proxies and the colonial RUC/PSNI Militia. It has been an honour to stand with you and we will continue to do so and offer any support we can.

We salute the volunteers at the Drumcree Community Centre who in recent days have gone above and beyond providing tea, coffee, soup and sandwiches to thousands of people with a smile and a chat for everyone.

We salute those who picked up bags and bags of rubbish showing how proud this Republican community is, and we salute all those who have opened their homes to invite those defending the community in, to dry off from the rain, warm up from the cold or just get a few minutes rest with a cup tea.

We also commend the workers in the local shops who have served the thousands of people in the area without complaint despite the additional work load and pressure.

This is the kind of Republican Community Resistance that cannot be defeated.

Anti Imperialist Action and Republican Ireland stand by the Garvaghy Road. The last number of days have shown that the residents and their supporters will defend their community by whatever means necessary and the Orange Order will NEVER be marching down Garvaghy Road.

No Orange Marches- Britain Out of Ireland

Anti Imperialist Action Ireland wishes to condemn the actions of the West Brit, Dublin-based media organisation “The Liberal” who for the last two days have been attempting to profit off the Garvaghy Road community by posting videos from the road with a link to a GoFundMe. Garvaghy Road residents across social media have called The Liberal out, stating that none of this money is going to the residents and all to the pockets of Leo Sherlock, the man who owns and runs the site.

Back in June, The Liberal were only delighted to show support for Loyalists when they burned out migrants from their shops and homes. They’ve also shown massive support to the Irish Far Right and Loyalists for linking with each other , even describing them as “uniting as one”. You cannot claim to support Republican communities while also cheerleading for Loyalists.

Anti Imperialist Action Ireland will call out and confront Loyalism and its supporters no matter if they’re in the occupied six or the Free State. We continue our support for the Garvaghy Road residents! No Orange March!

Anti Imperialist Action Ireland calls on all who consider themselves Republican, and on the entire nationalist community to withdraw all support for the British Colonial institutions at Stormont and from the RUC/PSNI.

Since even before the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998, Revolutionary Socialist Republicans have stated clearly that a treaty of Surrender with British Imperialism could not and would not advance the cause of Irish Freedom and National Liberation. We have been clear that the GFA and the institutions at Stormont and support for the RUC/PSNI can never advance the Irish Republican cause and have only copperfastened and strengthened British misrule in Ireland.

Over the past 28 years under the terms of Britain’s pacification process, the Republican and Nationalist community have been led up the garden path with promises of a mystical border poll to secure a united Ireland and have been told that we would never be treated as second class citizens in our own land again. In recent weeks those lies have been exposed by a British Imperialist Prime Minister who has stated a United Ireland is firmly off the table followed by what was clearly a decision taken at the highest levels of the British Establishment to force a sectarian, fascist orange march down the Garvaghy Road, that was only prevented because of the mass mobilisation of the Garvaghy Road Residents and their supporters from across the country. There is no road to Irish Sovereignty and Freedom through Stormont, border polls or a British Pacification Process. The road to freedom is through Resistance.

Recent days have shown what is possible when Republicans stand together, unified in their Resistance. Not the British Government, the RUC/PSNI, the Loyalists or the Orange Order can or will ever break that Resistance. But we have to be honest. The past 28 years have seen the Republican and Nationalist Community give concession after Concession to arrive at the very same place we stood in 1998, an occupied and partitioned country. The leadership Provisional IRA has ended its armed campaign and decommissioned causing a split in our ranks. The so called political leadership of nationalism has recognised British Policing and taken their seats and ministries in the colonial administration at Stormont, becoming part and parcel of what we are fighting against, only for British Imperialism and Loyalism to maintain and Strengthen their position, fundamentally exposing that British treaties will never lead to Irish Freedom.

The Republican community must once again stand together on Republican Principles, rejecting compromise with imperialism and upholding the position that Stormont is a colonial administration and has to be smashed.

There is no peace process in Ireland. There is only a British Pacification Process that has to be rejected and defeated. Republicans should stand United and Resist the British Occupation of our country together.

The cry coming from the protesters on the Garvaghy Road in recent days should be taken up by all Republicans across Ireland regardless of affiliation- Smash Stormont- Resist British Rule!

Damn your concessions- We Want Our Country!

AIA condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s determination regarding Sundays Orange March on the Nationalist Garvaghy Road in Portadown. Once again, a British-appointed quango has sided with Orange triumphalism over the rights of a Nationalist community. The Parades Commission's decision revives the Drumcree dispute, which claimed 21 innocent lives, and shows how little the lessons of that era have been learned by those who claim power.

For over 28 years, residents of the Garvaghy Road have lived in peace and dignity. That peace was never a problem in need of a "resolution." It was the community's own achievement, won by standing firm against the Orange state's marching season when the full weight of the establishment was brought to bear against it.

The Commission would have us believe this is a neutral decision. It is not. It is a political choice to place the demands of the sectarian Orange Order above the safety and wellbeing of the people who actually live on the Garvaghy Road. No amount of talk about “shared space” can disguise that fact.

AIA assert our intention to stand with the residents on Sunday and call on others to do likewise, and we will defend the right of this community to live free from naked sectarian triumphalism and intimidation.

AIA’s Coiste Robert Emmet strongly condemns today’s decision by the Free State An Coimisiún Pleanála to grant planning permission for an Aparthotel on Thomas Street, in the Liberties.

This is yet another example of how little the state cares about the working class in this country. For years, residents of the Liberties have been crying out for community centres and more green spaces in their area and all they’ve gotten is hotels and overpriced apartments. It’s time the community comes together and puts a stop to the ongoing gentrification of the Liberties.

Anti Imperialist Action Ireland will do whatever we can to support the Liberties community and would like to especially send our solidarity to the residents of Bridgefoot Street who have been out on the streets calling for the planning permission to be refused.

This afternoon members of Coiste Robert Emmet laid a wreath to mark the 223rd anniversary of Robert Emmet’s ex*****on at the hands of the British occupation.

" I have but one request to ask at my departure from this world, it is — THE CHARITY OF ITS SILENCE.
Let no man write my epitaph; for as no man who knows my motives dare now vindicate them, let not prejudice or ignorance asperse them. Let them and me rest in obscurity and peace; and my tomb remain uninscribed, and my memory in oblivion, until other times and other men can do justice to my character. When my country takes her place among the nations of the earth, then and not till then, let my epitaph be written." - Robert Emmet 🇮🇪
