Archives and Records Association (Ireland) The Archives and Records Association, Ireland is the principal professional body for archivists, archive conservators and records managers in Ireland.

http://www.learnaboutarchives.ie/ The Archives and Records Association, Ireland (ARA, Ireland) is the principal professional body for archivists, archive conservators and records managers in Ireland. It was established in Ireland thirty years ago. The Archives and Records Association (ARA, UK & Ireland) came into existence on 1 June 2010 and is the result of a merger of the National Council on Archives and the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government with the Society of Archivists. The principal aims of the ARA are: to promote the care and preservation of archives and the better administration of archive repositories; to advance the training of its members; and to encourage relevant research and publication. It achieves these aims through the work of its Council and its various Committees, Groups and Regions, and through its role as the voice of the three professions. The Association advises, submits evidence and makes comment on matters of professional concern to people or organisations whose activities affect archives and records. The Archives & Records Association is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all within the world of archives, records management and archive conservation, regardless of race, colour, religious beliefs or practices, ethnic or national origin, disabilities, gender, sexuality, marital status and age. In particular, the ARA is committed to encouraging equal access to education and training, employment and advancement within the profession.

The theme for September is Erased/Scriosta

The map pictured from 1737 shows land surveyed at Carrowmore, civil parish of Kilmore. At the time of creation, it was glued to a paper backing and many years ago prior to transfer to the archives was damaged, erasing some of the surveyor's information. Despite this, it has some beautiful features, including the little house and smokey chimney.

For Tailte Éireann is highlighting an interesting discovery in the Registry of Deeds Memorial 206424, dated 5 September 1775.

This Memorial is registering a deed of gift from Thomas Murphy of Waterford City to his cousin Mary O’Neal (nee Murphy) and her daughter Mary. The deed of gift relates to ‘all money, goods, chattels, estate and substance in the Kingdom of Spain which had belonged to Charles Murphy, deceased, who was in the service of his most Catholick Majesty…’ and which Thomas had inherited as next of kin. While not unusual for land in other countries to be occasionally referenced in Registry of Deeds transactions, it is highly unusual for the entirety of the property to be located outside Ireland.

Join us for the next ARA Ireland lecture on 30th September - CollabArchive: Using Creative Engagement to Build an Archive for Everyone

Lynsey Gillespie will give an overview of the five programmes delivered as part of this project and a look at some of the end results.
In 2022 The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) delivered CollabArchive, a community engagement project in partnership with the Nerve Centre and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This project aimed to bring diverse communities from across Northern Ireland to PRONI to find out what collections were already held there, create new records for PRONI and have opportunities to volunteer and enhance access to PRONIs collections. This talk will give an overview of the five years across a number of departments.

Lynsey currently leads the outreach and engagement team at PRONI. Lynsey holds a BA (Hons) in English and Modern History from Queen’s University Belfast and an MA in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies from Ulster University.
