💗 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026 💗
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an important opportunity to raise awareness about breast health and the importance of early detection.
The HSE National Screening Service and the National Cancer Control Programme have launched a Breast Cancer Awareness Month information campaign, including a range of resources to help people better understand breast cancer, breast screening services, symptoms, and the supports available.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Ireland, with 1 in 7 women expected to receive a diagnosis during their lifetime. Thankfully, outcomes continue to improve through earlier diagnosis, screening, and advances in treatment.
The HSE is encouraging women to: ✅ Attend their BreastCheck appointment when invited
✅ Be aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer
✅ Contact their GP promptly if they notice any unusual changes
✅ Learn more about the supports available before, during and after treatment
The information campaign also aims to help people understand the difference between BreastCheck screening services and symptomatic breast care services, ensuring that people can access the right service at the right time.
I am pleased to support this important public health awareness initiative and encourage everyone to take a few moments to review the information available and share it with family and friends.
