*New e-scooter law: please help keep our young people safe*
Since yesterday, Friday 2nd October, e-scooters can no longer be used by anyone under 18 years on public roads. This follows the introduction, just four weeks ago, of rules requiring all e-scooter users to wear a helmet and high-visibility clothing.
Superintendent Anthony Farrell in speaking to young people and their parents and guardians across Co. Carlow to follow these new laws. They are there to protect one of our most vulnerable groups of road users, our young people. E-scooters can be dangerous, particularly for those under 18, and the risk of serious injury, or worse, is simply too high.
As a first step in An Garda Síochána's response to this change in legislation, I have written to every secondary school in Co. Carlow. My letter highlights the new law and asks each school to introduce an outright ban on e-scooters on school grounds. An Garda Síochána would be grateful for your support. Together, we can help keep our young people safe.
