LITTLE LIFESAVERS

This Halloween & Christmas, Balbriggan Chain of Survival aims to put a lifesaver in every home in town and they might be only five years old!

🎃 Starting at Halloween, then running right through the panto season at The Lark alongside The Little Mermaid, we'll be handing out the National Ambulance Service children's activity book to families. It teaches kids how to:
✅ Spot a medical emergency
✅ Call 999 or 112
✅ Know their home Eircode so help finds them fast
✅ Understand the basics of CPR

👨‍👩‍👧 Bring the whole gang (parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles) for live CPR and defibrillator demos. Have a go yourself!

🎁 Want to be part of it? We're calling on local businesses, retailers and the first aid and medical community to get involved:
• Donate raffle prizes or spot prizes
• Sponsor printing of the activity books
• Brand lanyards, stickers or little goodies for our Little Lifesavers

Every book printed is another child who knows what to do. Every prize donated keeps the magic going.

HAMPTON WOODS

Balbriggan Chain of Survival is delighted to confirm that a new public access defibrillator was installed at Hampton Woods today. It is mounted in the estate and available to everyone, day and night.

Our sincere thanks to Emma and Dylan Murphy, whose support for the bottle & can collections helped raise the funds for this device, and to all the residents of Hampton Woods who contributed and joined us this morning.

At a short talk by CRITICAL CFR Balbriggan members beside the new defibrillator, the basics of CPR and how to use the device were covered. The key message: in a cardiac arrest, every minute counts. Call 112 or 999, start chest compressions and send someone for the defibrillator. The device will talk you through each step.

Our Fundraising Ride Out takes place this Sunday, 27th September At Harley Davidson Red Cow, and we would love to see as many of you as possible join us for the day.

Fuel prices are now over €2 per litre, and fuel continues to be one of the biggest costs involved in keeping our service on the road. Every euro raised from this event will go directly towards helping us meet these costs and continue providing our vital 24/7 service, which we have proudly provided for the past 13 years.

Whether you’re joining us on the ride or simply coming along to support us, every bit of support makes a difference and helps us keep our vehicles on the road and our service running.

Our established work includes the provision of defibrillators, cabinets and emergency infrastructure, cardiac research and cabinets to support vital-signs monitoring devices. Now, we are extending that work to additional preventative measures.

This winter, we are examining the provision of warm blankets for elderly residents. We also intend to make Atomic Habits available to those who may find it helpful, as a modest contribution to wellbeing and to community resilience in su***de prevention. We aim to develop structures, approaches and practical supports that can assist individuals in need. In parallel, we are evaluating handheld defibrillators and other emerging technology.

These initiatives are under active consideration and we welcome input from the community.

Anne O'Connor is the Chief Executive Officer of the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Ireland, formerly Managing Director of Vhi Health & Wellbeing and previously the HSE's Chief Operating Officer.

Speaking at RESPOND 2026, Anne stated that the HSE Ireland mission was for every community, regardless of geography, to have access to a strong and sustainable First Responder Network.

New members join Critical CFR- Balbriggan and begin their onboarding journey with their first training session. Each new member will undergo extensive training to become an active member within the CFR group.

Balbriggan continues to build resilience for medical emergencies within the community.
