Indonesian Industrial and Beverage Crops Research Institute (IIBCRI) is an Indonesian government agency, under Ministry of Agriculture, for agricultural research focusing on four main commodities, namely rubber, coffee, cacao and tea. Formerly, it is known as Indonesian Spice and Industrial Crops (ISICRI). We aim to create innovations and technologies of industrial and beverage crops. We are open

for research collaboration with the local, national and international institution. Our main research covering:
1. Research on genetics, breeding, seed management, germplasm utilization of industrial and beverage crops (rubber, coffee, cacao and tea);
2. Research on ecophysiology and pest management of industrial and beverage crops (rubber, coffee, cacao and tea);
3. Research on agribusiness system of industrial and beverage crops of industrial and beverage crops (rubber, coffee, cacao and tea);
4. Research on post harvest technology of industrial and beverage crops (rubber, coffee, cacao and tea). We offer consultation on the feasibility study, analysis of environmental impact, design and management for rubber, coffee, cacao and tea plantation. We also provide technical support and training to farmers and local extension officers on GAP and post harvest technology of rubber, coffee, cacao and tea. As part of our obligation to reach out to the public and inform our works, we publish an accredited journal and monthly magazines informing our latest research development, which can be accessed at our website.

President Joko Widodo directly inspected the Indonesian Rice Research Center (BBPadi) in Subang Regency, West Java Province, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The President's visit to the center was to ensure food availability, especially rice in the country.

"This morning I came to the Rice Center from the Ministry of Agriculture in order to ensure the availability of our food, especially rice, because it is in this hall that the seeds of superior varieties are prepared," said the President in his statement after the review.

According to the Head of State, currently the world is experiencing food shortages everywhere. Therefore, the President asked all parties to be vigilant and ensure that the availability of Indonesian food is in a safe condition.

During his review at BBPadi, President Jokowi saw, among other things, a germplasm warehouse that stores various collections and conservation of rice germplasm. The President saw that BBPadi had prepared superior varieties and found varieties.

MENGENAL CITARASA DAN KARAKTER MORFOLOGI KOPI KOBURA

Kopi Robusta merupakan salah satu varietas kopi yang banyak dibudidayakan oleh petani di dataran menengah sampai rendah. Salah satu wilayah yang dikenal memiliki produksi Kopi Robusta dengan mutu cita rasa yang baik dengan kategori Very good-Excellent specialty (Skor > 80) adalah wilayah kabupaten OKU Selatan di Sumatera Selatan. Pada tahun 2021, Balittri bekerjasama dengan Dinas Perkebunan Provinsi Sumatera Selatan berhasil melepas klon kopi Kobura 1, Kobura 2 dan Kobura 3. Tiga klon lokal kopi Robusta tersebut telah dibudidayakan oleh petani sejak tahun 1990-an dan saat ini telah dikembangkan secara luas di Kabupaten OKU Selatan, salah satunya di Kecamatan Banding Agung.

Kecamatan Banding Agung berlokasi di pinggiran Danau Ranau memiliki bentang geografis berupa dataran menengah dengan ketinggian berada di kisaran 600-700 m dpl. Perbanyakan tanaman kopi mayoritas sudah menggunakan sambung pucuk atau dikenal sebagai “Kopi Setek”. Berdasarkan pengalaman petani, produktivitas kopi dengan perbanyakan vegetatif (klonal) lebih tinggi apabila dibandingkan tanaman kopi yang ditanam dari biji. Klon Bugel (Kobura 1) dan Marjuki Buah Besar (Kobura 2) tersebar luas di Desa Talang Agung, sedangkan klon Marjuki Buah Kecil (Kobura 3) di Desa Air Rupik. Keunggulan yang menonjol dari ketiga klon ini adalah cita rasa yang baik. Ketiga klon tersebut memiliki potensi produksi tinggi dan citarasa Very good-Excellent Specialty untuk dikembangkan secara luas dalam rangka meningkatkan produktivitas kopi nasional, khususnya Provinsi Sumatera Selatan.

Hasil uji mutu citarasa berdasarkan olah natural yang mengacu pada protokol SCAA menunjukkan semua klon yang diuji yaitu klon Kobura 1, Kobura 2, dan Kobura 3 menghasilkan produk mutu seduhan dengan kategori Very good-Excellent (Tabel 9). Karakter fragrance/aroma dari masing-masing klon mempunyai spesifikasi tersendiri. Klon Kobura 1 termasuk kategori Very good (skor 84,00), dengan fragrance/aroma Caramelly, Nutty (soy Bean), Spicy, dan Vanila. Klon Kobura 2 termasuk kategori Excellent (skor 88,00), dengan fragrance/aroma Caramelly,Flowery, very Sweet, Vanila. Klon Kobura 3 termasuk kategori Excellent (skor 86,00), dengan fragrance/aroma Caramely, Nutty, Soy Bean, Chili, Vanila.

Pengolahan biji kopi secara natural dapat menghasilkan flavor yang lebih kompleks dengan body lebih baik, acidity lebih rendah, dan munculnya aroma buah (fruity) yang lebih kaya. Teknik ini juga relatif paling mudah dan murah dilakukan karena hanya menjemur buah kopi masak hasil panen secara langsung di bawah sinar matahari. Namun demikian, tantangan yang dihadapi teknik olah natural adalah memastikan buah kopi yang dipanen segera dijemur hingga kering secara merata dalam waktu yang singkat (Poltronieri dan Rossi, 2016). Untuk mendapatkan mutu citarasa yang optimal maka panen buah kopi dianjurkan secara petik merah, atau dilakukan sortasi buah setelah panen untuk memisahkan buah yang sudah masak berwarna merah dengan yang masih berwarna hijau.
