Ambassador Lee Chul held a meeting with the Commissioner of the Korea National Fire Agency (KNFA), who visited the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN on May 13th, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and the KNFA in the field of disaster management. The Commissioner emphasized that Korea’s advanced fire service system is of world-class standard and can make a meaningful contribution to enhancing disaster response capacities in ASEAN member states through the active sharing of its expertise and experience. In response, Ambassador Lee underscored that disaster management is a key area of cooperation within ASEAN and affirmed his commitment to maintaining close attention to the issue and working toward tangible outcomes together with the KNFA in the future.

이철대사는 5월 13일(수) 주아세안대표부를 방문한 소방청장과 면담을 갖고, 재난관리 분야에서의 아세안-소방청 간 협력 강화 방안을 논의하였다. 소방청장은 한국의 선진 소방 시스템이 세계적 수준의 경쟁력을 갖추고 있음을 강조하며, 이를 아세안 회원국들과 적극 공유함으로써 역내 재난 대응 역량 강화에 실질적으로 기여할 수 있다고 밝혔다. 이에 이철대사는 재난관리가 아세안 협력에서 매우 중요한 분야임을 강조하고, 앞으로도 지속적인 관심을 바탕으로 실질적인 성과를 도출할 수 있도록 노력해 나가겠다고 밝혔다.

On May 13, Ambassador LEE Chul held a meeting with San Lwin, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community, during which the two sides shared views on ways to enhance ROK–ASEAN socio-cultural cooperation, with a focus on disaster management, environmental cooperation, and cultural exchanges
Both sides shared the view that cooperation in the socio-cultural field has contributed significantly to bringing the peoples of the ROK and ASEAN closer together, and agreed to further strengthen practical cooperation in the future.

이철 주아세안대사는 5.13.(수) San Lwin 아세안 사회문화 사무차장과 면담을 갖고 환경 협력, 재난 관리, 문화 분야를 중심으로 한–아세안 사회문화 분야 협력 성과를 평가하고 향후 협력 강화 방안에 대해 의견을 교환하였습니다.
양측은 사회문화 분야 협력이 한-아세안 국민들을 서로 가깝게 하는데 크게 기여하고 있다는 데 의견을 같이 하고 앞으로 실질협력을 더욱 강화해 나가기로 하였습니다.

Ambassador LEE Chul met with Ambassador Noy Choumneanh, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN, on 12 May. They discussed ways to further strengthen ROK-ASEAN cooperation, including through AKCF‑supported programs, and agreed to work closely together.

이철 주아세안대사는 5.12 Noy Choumneanh 주아세안 캄보디아대사를 면담했습니다. 양측은 한-아세안 협력기금 주요 사업 등을 통한 한-아세안 협력 강화 방안에 대해 논의하였으며, 앞으로 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 했습니다.

On May 11, Ambassador LEE Chul met with Ambassador Sarah Al Bakri Devadason, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN. Ambassador LEE congratulated Malaysia for a successful Chairmanship in 2025, and reaffirmed the Republic of Korea’s strong commitment to strengthening ASEAN-ROK cooperation. The two sides agreed to maintain close communication to further enhance the ASEAN-ROK partnership.

On May 7, Ambassador LEE Chul met with Ambassador Latifah Zaini, Permanent Representative of Brunei to ASEAN. Based on the strong bilateral friendship, both sides agreed to maintain strong communication and coordination to further enhance the ROK-ASEAN partnership.

이철 주아세안대사는 5.7(목) 라티파 자이니(Latifah Zaini) 주아세안 브루나이대사를 면담하였습니다. 양측은 긴밀한 우호관계를 기반으로 한-아세안 관계 발전을 위해 지속 소통하고 협력해 나가기로 하였습니다.

Ambassador LEE Chul met with Ambassador Joanna Anderson, New Zealand‘s Ambassador to ASEAN, on May 6. As the ROK and New Zealand elevated the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2025, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation and coordination in ASEAN as well, based on common values and interests.

이철 주아세안대사는 5.6(수) 조안나 앤더슨(Joanna Anderson) 주아세안 뉴질랜드대사를 면담하였습니다. 양측은 작년 10월 한국-뉴질랜드 관계가 포괄적 전략 동반자 관계로 격상됨에 따라, 공동의 가치와 이익에 기반하여 아세안에서의 양국간 협력 및 공조도 더욱 강화해 나가기로 하였습니다.
