We live in a society that panders to history;
Our history and our version of events -
Glorified, Romanticised, indulgent in semi-legend -
That yet we cherish as the illusion of truth. We live in a world where we are forced to be chained,
Unchained and unbounded by the cages of our passion;
When our claim rights denature as human emotion
Erodes and corrodes
their instrumental value
And weathers away their intrinsic purpose. We live in a universe where we seek to recreate history
To walk the paths that millions have walked before
And claim to be pioneers of dreams and revolutions. We fight. We believe. We assert. We argue
And bicker and chant slogans and cleanse our eyes
And fight and resist and terrorise and destroy and
Campaign for our version of events. It is very easy to summon moral crises out of reality. It is very simple to conjure mass-brainwashing sentiments. It is very straightforward to exploit false dichotomies. But it is very hard for us to reason. I come from a city that has long cherished its principles of freedom and justice,
Whose central core values are facing an unprecedented challenge by both
The alleged risk of the CCP and the concrete acts of its people. This is not a time for socioeconomic fear-mongering. This is a time for the revamping of our political atmosphere. Hong Kong needs a fresh voice.
