【Deepening Digital Silk Road Cooperation: SITI exchanges views with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan at Hong Kong Science Park】
The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun D**g, today met with Mr Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, and his delegation at Hong Kong Science Park. Accompanied by Mr Terry Wong, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) and Mr Philip Har, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, they also visited the innovation and technology (I&T) park, and a research and development centre.
Mr Wong briefed the delegation on the Science Park’s I&T ecosystem, whereas Dr Teng Gao, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI), outlined Hong Kong’s development in the semiconductor sector and the MRDI’s work. The delegation also visited the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) set up by the Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences under the InnoHK research clusters. Centre Director Professor Hongbin Liu introduced to the delegation CAIR’s research.
Professor Sun said that Uzbekistan is an important partner for Hong Kong in Central Asia. With the clear support of the National 15th Five-Year Plan, Hong Kong is striving to develop into an international I&T centre. Hong Kong has the distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world. Having direct access to the huge Mainland market and strong international connectivity, at the same time, Hong Kong serves as a bridge linking the Mainland and the rest of the world. Hong Kong welcomes Uzbekistan to leverage the city’s connectivity to tab into the Greater Bay Area and global markets. We also support Hong Kong enterprises to seize opportunities in Central Asia. The HKSAR Government will continue to play its role as a “super connector” and “super value-adder”, working with Uzbekistan to advance the high-quality development of the Digital Silk Road.
Today’s exchange is an important step in deepening I&T cooperation between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan following the Chief Executive’s meeting with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan in Hong Kong in May and the Chief Executive’s visit to IT Park Uzbekistan in June this year.
