DEEPENING LEGAL CO-OPERATION IN UZBEKISTAN🇺🇿

Secretary for Justice Mr Paul Lam led a cross-professional delegation of Hong Kong’s legal, financial and accounting experts to Uzbekistan to deepen legal co-operation. HKETO Dubai supported the mission, with Director-General Mr Simon Chan attending as part of the delegation.

Mr Lam met the Minister of Justice, Mr Akbar Djurabayevich Tashkulov, to explore how Hong Kong’s common law system and links to the Chinese Mainland and international markets can support Uzbek enterprises expanding abroad. A MoU was signed between Hong Kong’s Department of Justice and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice, deepening cooperation on dispute resolution and AI technology in the legal sector. Mr Lam also met the Mayor of Tashkent City, Mr Umurzakov Shavkat Buranovich to introduce Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages.

While in Tashkent, the delegation met the Chamber of Advocates of Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce for Chinese Entrepreneurs to explore co-operation, as well as Deputy Ministers from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, sharing Hong Kong’s experience in investment, cross-border trade and dispute resolution while exploring support for the Tashkent International Financial Centre.

The delegation also met the Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Mr Yu Jun, to discuss Hong Kong’s role as an international legal hub, and visited the Tashkent State University of Law and the Center for Islamic Civilization to strengthen academic and cultural ties.

PROMOTING HONG KONG’S LEGAL SERVICES IN KAZAKHSTAN🇰🇿

Secretary for Justice Mr Paul Lam led a cross-professional delegation of Hong Kong’s legal and financial experts to Almaty, Kazakhstan, showcasing the strengths of Hong Kong’s common law system to the local business community. HKETO Dubai supported the mission, and Director-General Mr Simon Chan attended the meetings and events as part of the delegation.

At the Collaborate2Win seminar, co-organised by the Department of Justice of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with over 160 local attendees, Mr Lam highlighted Hong Kong as an indispensable partner for Kazakhstan, backed by its status as a premier financial hub with common law advantages. Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prosecutor General Mr Umiraliyev Zhandos Zhanibekovich, China’s Consul-General in Almaty Mr Su Fangqiu, Commissioner for Belt and Road Mr Nicholas Ho, and HKTDC Associate Executive Director Ms Anna Cheung also shared their insights. Prior to the seminar, Mr Lam also had a courtesy meeting with Mr Zhanibekovich to discuss bilateral legal collaboration, trade dispute resolution, and investor protection.

During the visit, Mr Lam and the delegation also met with representatives of local Chinese Mainland law firm and chamber to promote Hong Kong’s legal and professional services in supporting Mainland enterprises expanding overseas.

【ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE IN Q2📊】

The Hong Kong economy continued to expand robustly in the second quarter of 2026, underpinned by buoyant external trade and resilient domestic demand. Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.3% in the second quarter over a year earlier. For the first half of 2026, real GDP grew by 5.1% over a year earlier, the strongest half-yearly performance in nearly five years. Learn more from the image🔎

Looking ahead, the Hong Kong economy should see solid growth in the second half of 2026. The vibrant global demand for AI-related electronic products is expected to continue supporting Hong Kong’s merchandise trade performance, and related logistics services should benefit from this momentum as well. Exports of services are also expected to benefit from sustained growth in visitor arrivals, alongside steady demand for financial and business services in Hong Kong. Domestic demand is expected to stay firm, supported by stable labour market conditions, and solid business and consumer sentiment.

Taking into account the stronger-than-expected actual outturn in the first half of the year and the near-term outlook, the real GDP growth forecast for 2026 as a whole is revised up to 3.5% to 4.5%, from 2.5% to 3.5% in the May round of review.

اقتصاد هونغ كونغ واصل نموه القوي في الربع الثاني من 2026، بفضل التجارة الخارجية والطلب المحلي القوي. الناتج المحلي الإجمالي الحقيقي نما 4.3% مقارنة بنفس الفترة من العام الماضي. وبذلك بلغ النمو في النصف الأول من 2026 نسبة 5.1%، وهو الأقوى منذ نحو خمس سنوات. ومن المتوقع استمرار هذا الزخم في النصف الثاني، مدفوعاً بالطلب العالمي المتزايد على منتجات الذكاء الاصطناعي الذي يدعم التجارة السلعية والخدمات اللوجستية. كما يُتوقع نمو أعداد الزوار وقوة الخدمات المالية وخدمات الأعمال، مع سوق عمل مستقر ومعنويات إيجابية لدى الشركات والمستهلكين.

وبناءً على هذا الأداء القوي، تمت مراجعة توقعات نمو الناتج المحلي الإجمالي لعام 2026 بالزيادة إلى نطاق 3.5%-4.5%، بدلاً من 2.5%-3.5% في مراجعة مايو.

HONG KONG FOOTBALL FESTIVAL 2026 WRAPS UP IN STYLE! ⚽️🔥

Hong Kong concluded a thrilling summer of world-class football, with Italian giants Juventus beating English Premier League rivals Chelsea 1-0 in The Herbalgy Trophy on August 5, followed by German giants Bayern Munich edging past Premier League contenders Aston Villa 2-1 at the Audi Football Summit 2026 on August 7. 🏆

📚 HONG KONG BOOK FAIR 2026 CLOSES ON A HIGH! ✨

The 36th Hong Kong Book Fair successfully concluded earlier at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre under the theme “Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys.” It featured more than 600 cultural events and was held alongside the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo and World of Snacks, with the three events attracting 990,000 visits, over 770 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions.

FS Paul Chan visited several international pavilions of the book fair, including UAE and Kuwait booths, highlighting Hong Kong’s increasing cultural exchanges with the Middle East. The Chinese Mainland zone also featured around 16,000 book titles from 55 publishers.

The UAE had a strong presence, with Menassah Distribution Company making its international debut, while TRENDS Research & Advisory and the Emirates Publishers Association participated to promote Emirati and Arabic literature, expand translation opportunities and build new partnerships across Asia. The fair continues to serve as a global platform connecting cultures, ideas and readers from around the world.

اختُتمت فعاليات معرض هونغ كونغ للكتاب السادس والثلاثين بنجاح في مركز هونغ كونغ للمؤتمرات والمعارض. شهد المعرض أكثر من 600 فعالية ثقافية، بالتزامن مع معرض هونغ كونغ للرياضة والترفيه وعالم الوجبات الخفيفة، حيث استقطبت الفعاليات الثلاث نحو 990,000 زيارة، بمشاركة أكثر من 770 عارضاً من 30 دولة ومنطقة.

وزار وزير المالية في هونغ كونغ السيد بول تشان عدداً من الأجنحة الدولية في المعرض، بما في ذلك الأجنحة المشاركة من الإمارات والكويت، في خطوة تعكس تنامي التبادل الثقافي بين هونغ كونغ ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط. كما ضم جناح البر الرئيسي الصيني نحو 16,000 عنوان كتاب من 55 دار نشر.

⚽ FOOTBALL FEVER LIGHTS UP HONG KONG!

Over 42,800 fans packed Kai Tak Stadium on August 1 to watch Serie A champions FC Internazionale Milano (Inter) take on English Premier League giants Manchester City in a friendly match.

With the teams tied 1-1 after 90 minutes, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Inter securing a 3-1 victory after Matteo Lavelli scored the decisive spot-kick.

The excitement extended beyond the pitch, as thousands of fans filled Kai Tak Sports Park, lining up for souvenirs and snapping selfies with team mascots. 📸

The action continues at this year’s Hong Kong Football Festival, with Chelsea FC set to take on Juventus for The Herbalgy Trophy at Kai Tak Stadium today (August 5). 🏆

⚽ أجواء كروية حماسية في هونغ كونغ!

شهد استاد كاي تاك الرياضي في الأول من أغسطس حضور أكثر من 42,800 مشجع لمتابعة المواجهة الودية التي جمعت بطل الدوري الإيطالي إنتر ميلان بعملاق الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز مانشستر سيتي.

وانتهى الوقت الأصلي للمباراة بالتعادل 1-1، قبل أن يحسم إنتر ميلان اللقاء بركلات الترجيح بنتيجة 3-1، بعدما سجل ماتيو لافيلي الركلة الحاسمة.
