你的童年回憶中，遊樂場是一個怎樣的地方？

塘尾道兒童遊樂場對不少區內小朋友來說，不僅僅是一個玩耍的地方，更是居住空間的延伸。

「童理玩」計劃發現，塘尾道之所以能創作出一套細緻的「大白鯊」捉迷藏遊戲，在於這區小朋友的遊樂場使用頻率是香港其他遊樂場的一倍。小朋友不止在這裡創作「大白鯊」捉迷藏遊戲，甚至放學後在這裡完成功課，遊樂場提供了一個安全、有趣和發揮創意的空間，因此，我們加入了更多讓小朋友想像、社交及休息的空間。我們相信每個社區都有屬於它的「大白鯊」🐋，每區小朋友會以不同喜好和玩樂習慣反映社區文化特色，「童理玩」將陸續在各區打造參與式設計的遊樂場，「同你」發掘更多屬於社區的故事！💬

What was a playground like in your childhood memories?

For many children in the Tong Mei Road neighborhood, the playground is more than just a place to play—it is an extension of their living space.

The Together We Play campaign discovered that Tong Mei Road Children’s Playground fosters a highly intricate Great White Shark hide-and-seek game, largely because children here use the playground twice as often as those in other districts. Beyond playing, they even complete their homework here after school. The playground serves as a safe, engaging, and creative space, inspiring us to incorporate more areas for imagination, social interaction, and rest.

We believe every community has its own Great White Shark story🐋—a unique reflection of local children’s play culture. Through participatory design, Together We Play will continue creating playgrounds across districts, uncovering more community stories with you! 💬

孩子​​如何定義他們的遊樂場？💡🐋

玩是小朋友與生俱來的本能，但他們可以如何具體地表達玩樂需求?​ 「童理玩」計劃的共創工作坊中，我們發現了一個神奇的現象——大部分塘尾道孩子都在玩一個名為 「大白鯊」 的捉迷藏遊戲！🐋🏃💨 他們自發地創造了一套細緻的規則，從「海洋」到「陸地」，甚至有「天文台」控制潮汐變化，讓這個捉迷藏遊戲代代相傳。

我們決定跟隨孩子的腳步，以參與式設計讓孩子親手設計他們理想的遊樂場！✨團隊為諮詢過程中透過 「遊樂調查工具箱」，孩子們用互動問卷、微型模型向我們展示了對高台、隧道、隱藏空間的需求——因為這些地方最適合他們玩「大白鯊」遊戲！

翻新後的​塘尾道兒童遊樂場以「追鯊逐浪」為設計概念，讓孩子們的創意不僅留在遊戲中，也落實在空間裡，成為這個社區的集體回憶。

🔹 你小時候最愛玩的遊樂場遊戲是什麼？⬇️💬

Play is second nature to children, but how do they express their play needs? During the Together We Play co-creation workshops, we uncovered a fascinating discovery—most kids at Tong Mei Road Playground were playing "Great White Shark," a self-created hide-and-seek game with intricate rules, from “ocean” to “land” and even a “weather station” controlling tides.

Inspired by this, we embraced participatory design, letting children shape their ideal playground! ✨ Using the Playground Research Toolbox, they documented play spaces through interactive surveys and model making, revealing a shared need for elevated platforms, tunnels, and hidden spaces—the perfect setting for their game.

Now, the redesigned Tong Mei Road Playground brings their imagination to life with the theme "Chasing Sharks and Riding Waves," turning their play into a lasting community legacy.

三年時間，與孩子以社區遊樂場記錄他們的童年回憶🧸

小朋友每週重重複復穿越城市街巷，走到遊樂場玩耍流連、結識朋友、在搖搖馬與滑梯上發揮他們的想像，這些重重複複的生活日常成為每個人的童年回憶和對這個城市印象的起點。塘尾道兒童遊樂場正是這樣的城市空間，記錄著孩子們每天放學後的奔跑和歡笑聲，見證了他們遊戲與成長的足跡。

去年底，塘尾道遊樂場以全新遊樂景觀迎來了熟悉的身影。我們邀請參與設計的小朋友與家長們重返這片記憶中的地方，見證他們的設計如何化為現實。在全新的設計場地裡，「大白鯊」捉迷藏遊戲再次上演, 不論互相認識與否，孩子們自然而然聚集起來，圍繞著全新遊樂設施與地景，演化出新的「大白鯊」遊戲規則。他們在遊樂場全力奔跑、笑聲回蕩，試玩過後以一句「好玩」表示滿意！「追鯊逐浪」的主題設計，不僅實現了他們的遊玩夢想，也讓遊樂場成為孩子們繼續發揮想像力與建立連結的舞台。

整個設計過程是一場與孩子們深入對話的旅程，團隊以社區觀察、遊樂調查和模型創作，構築了孩子理想中的遊樂空間，感謝沿途有協作伙伴智樂兒童遊樂協會、國際培幼會(香港)及關注學童發展權利聯席(關學聯)的支持，令兒童參與式設計過程順利進行，也讓孩子們盡情發揮創意，創造出一個承載童年回憶的公共遊樂空間！ 🌊🎨👧👦

Over three years, we have documented children's childhood memories through community playgrounds. Every week, children traverse city streets to play, make friends, and unleash their imaginations on the seesaws and slides. These routines form the foundation of their childhood memories and impressions of the city. Tong Mei Road Children’s Playground embodies this spirit, capturing children's laughter and joy after school. At the end of last year, the playground unveiled a new design, inviting children and parents involved in the co-creation process to witness their ideas come to life. The Tong Mei Road version "Great White Shark" hide-and-seek social game returned, with children naturally gathering around the new facilities to further develop fresh rules play with more laughter and running. The theme "Chasing Sharks and Riding Waves" not only fulfilled their dreams but also transformed the playground into a vibrant space for imagination and connection, showcasing the power of participatory design in creating cherished childhood experiences.

The entire design process was a journey of in-depth dialogue with the children through community observation, play surveys, and model creation. We are grateful for the support from our collaborative partners: Playright Children's Play Association, Plan International Hong Kong, and Alliance for Children Development Rights, which facilitated throughout the participatory design process and allowed children to unleash their creativity in creating a public play space that carries childhood memories!

一個遊樂場如何多元好玩又安全？

感謝 Children’s Play Association 與 Kong Institute of Landscape Architects 的邀請，讓我們於Playful City Symposium的專題演講 Play and Risk中, 有機會與大家分享實現中遊樂安全標準與遊樂體驗之間的平衡。我們更有機會向嘉賓導賞剛剛改建而成的塘尾道遊樂場，分享兒童參與式設計的心得，更揭示如何發現一個區內小朋友之間流行的社交遊戲。🦈

How can a playground be fun for children while meeting safety standards?

Thank Playright and the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects for inviting us to speak at the Playful City Symposium. It was a valuable opportunity to share insights on balancing playground safety standards with engaging play experiences in the Play and Risk session.
We also had the chance to guide guests through the recently renovated Tong Mei Road Playground, sharing our experiences with child participatory design and uncovering the secrets behind popular social games among local children. 🦈

感謝Mill Milk主持人Apple & Sam介紹以「大白鯊」為主題的塘尾道兒童遊樂場🐬三年前有份參與設計遊樂場的小朋友聚首一堂，向兩位主持和MM觀眾介紹這個屬於塘尾道小朋友的社交遊戲。團隊相信每個社區都有屬於它的「大白鯊」，以各區小朋友的喜好和玩樂習慣反映社區文化特色，從參與式設計的過程了解每一個小朋友的玩樂需要。
「是一個文化沉澱，讓小朋友一個傳一個，這也是城市的文化構造過程，又或者說是遊樂文化構造的過程。」

Thanks to Mill Milk for featuring the newly revamped Tong Mei Road Children's Playground 🐬. Three years after participating in the playground's design, the children reunited to introduce this unique social game “Chasing Sharks and Riding Waves” to the hosts and the public. The team believes every community has its own "Great White Shark," with children's preferences and needs on play reflecting the cultural characteristics of their neighborhoods. Through the participatory design process, we gain insight into each child's needs on play.
"It's a form of cultural sedimentation, where children pass it on one to another. This is part of the cultural fabric of the city—or perhaps, the construction process of a play culture."

「童理玩」計劃的首個項目旺角塘尾道兒童遊樂場正式啟用，這是一個強調兒童參與設計的計劃，過去三年與超過2000名家長及孩子進行深入互動和諮詢，了解他們對遊樂場的想法和需求。
在諮詢過程發現此遊樂場擁有一個跨年齡的「大白鯊」捉迷藏遊戲，更化成遊樂場設計主題《追鯊逐浪》，為遊樂場帶來全新面貌，同時傳承社區的集體記憶。
感謝所有參與和支持此計劃家長、孩子和合作夥伴 香港國際培幼會 Plan International Hong Kong Playright Children’s Play Association，讓這個夢想成真。
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Tong Mei Road Children’s Playground, as the first public playground co-created with children under Together We Play campaign. Over the past three years, this campaign has engaged over 2000 parents and children in the design process to reimagine more than 10 playgrounds across Hong Kong.
Inspired by the popular game called “Great White Shark”, a creative version of hide-and-seek uncovered in the co-creation process. This game becomes the inspiration for the playground’s new theme, “Chasing Sharks and Riding Waves”, which not only breathes fresh life into the space but also preserves the community’s collective memories.
A heartfelt thank you to all parents, children and our community partners Plan International Hong Kong and Playright for making this vision a reality.
