The Periphery of the Peloponnese is an administrative entity composed of the prefectures of Corinth, Argolida, Arcadia, Messinia and Laconia. Its name refers to the wider region of the Peloponnese which in turn derives from Greek Mythology and specifically the legend of the hero Pelops who was said to have conquered the entire region. The administrative Periphery of Peloponnese is situated in the
eastern part of the peninsula, neighboring the wider region of Attica on the East and the Periphery of Western Greece on the West. Its capital city is Tripoli which is also the capital of the prefecture of Arcadia. The periphery covers a total area of 15.490 km2 hence 11,7% of the total area of the country and combines a strategic location, an economy of new opportunities, a breath-taking environment, a rich history, a skilled workforce and a unique quality of life. The periphery has a population of 639.000 or 5.18% of Greek total population, while its GDP contributes 6% of Total GDP in Greece. GDP per capita is at 77% of EU average and slightly less then Greek average. Also employment rates are higher than the national rates and remain at E.U average levels. The economic mix of the region is distributed between the primary sector and tourism. Despite the fact that 50% of the region is mountainous, the periphery includes some of the most fertile lands in the country producing renowned wine labels and top quality olive oil. Nowadays, the infrastructure works in transportation create new challenges for the region to become a link between the East and the West. At the same time a new national administrative restructuring allows for elected administrations to manage resources and set local priorities. For the Peloponnese periphery our priority is to invest on our strongest assets: our fertile soil, bright sun and the quality and character of our people whose credentials date back to the origins of times. Our aim is for the Peloponnese to become a hub where tradition and innovation will meet to create a channel of opportunities.
