"Dunstan's Children"

A tribute paid to Don Dunstan, premier of South Australia (1967-68, 1970-79), showcasing his contibution to Hellenism.

Speeches were give by The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide,Dr Jane Lomax-Smith AM,

Mr. John Kiossoglous MBE, KSA, AE, SM,

and

Emeritus Professor of Classics at Adelaide University (The University of Adelaide), Han Baltussen.

Presented by Festival Hellenika and South Australia's History Festival, at the Hetzel Lecture Theatre Institute Buidliding, State Library of South Australia.

A visit by the Consul-General for Greece in Adelaide, Dr. Alexandra Theodoropoulou to the Museum of Classical Archaeology in Adelaide under the stewardship of Program Director Dr. Margaret O'Hea.

We had the splendid opportunity to admire many Greek artifacts.
Many thanks to Dr. O'Hea who is the Senior Lecturer in Archaeology and Ancient History at Adelaide University.

Also the Consul-General had the pleasure of receiving Dr. Emlyn Dodd, Archaeologist at the Adelaide University (The University of Adelaide) discussing the collaboration of student archaeology visits to Greece.

Συγχαρητήρια...

Congratulations to Demeter Tsounis and the Meraki Ensemble (Meraki Music) for a wonderful evening "Cafe Aman IV" held at Nexus, Adelaide Arts Centre.

'A Greek Cabaret of traditional folk and urban music inspired by the cosmopolitan atmosphere of early 20th century Ottoman society. Songs of agapi (love), viopali (life struggle), topos (place), thalassa (the sea) and xenitia (migration).'

It was with great solemnity to attend the 19th May Pontian Greek Genocide Commemoration Day 2026 on Sunday held by the Pontian Brotherhood of South Australia Inc.

Begining the day there was a Memorial Prayer Church Service, by His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide and Father Michael Psaromatis and Father Stavros Psaromatis, held at St Dimitrios, Salisbury.

Following the Church service was a Memorial Service at Salisbury Memorial Park Cemetary with a wreath laying ceremony.

Post Ceremonial refreshments were held at the Home of the Pontian Brotherhood of South Australia Inc.

Joining the Consul-General for Greece in Adelaide, Dr. Alexandra Theodoropoulou were the Hon. Michael Atkinson retired S.A. MP, whom recognised the Greek, Pontian, Armenian and Assyrian Genocide for the first time in Australia and South Australia in April 2009, along with Ms. Nadia Clancy MP, South Australian Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Small and Family Business, Mr. Steve Georganas MP, federal member for Adelaide, Ms Elena Gasparyan, President of the Armenian Cultural Association of South Australia, many guests and officials with the Pontian Brotherhood of SA Dance Group and our host, Miss Renae Lazaridis O'Donnell, President of the Pontian Brotherhood of South Australia Incorporated.

A sincere thankyou to Miss Renae Lazaridis O'Donnell, and the organising committee of the Pontian Brotherhood of SA Inc. and all involved for a day of rememberence and commemoration.

A very special week in Adelaide.

Thankyou to the Cretan Federation of Australia & New Zealand (President Mr. Emmanuel Mountakis) and the Cretan Association of South Australia (President Mr. Pantelis Fridakis) for their cordination and work in the events commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete (20 May - 01 June 1941) throughout Australia and New Zealand and ofcourse, Adelaide this year. Working closely with the Military Attaché of The Embassy of Greece in Canberra Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos.

It was truly an Honour to receive the special high ranking Military Delegation of the Hellenic Defence Force led by the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Defence Force General Staff, Lieutenant General Air Marshall Konstantinos Bouzos.

Thankyou to the wonderful students and staff at St George College for hosting us at the College for a full assembly for the 85th Anniversary Commemorations for the Battle of Crete with the visiting Military Dignitaries from the Hellenic Defence Force led by the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Defence Force General Staff, Lieutenant General Air Marshall Konstantinos Bouzos.

A very special week in Adelaide with a special visit by a high ranking Military Delegation of the Hellenic Defence Force led by the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Defence Force General Staff, Lieutenant General Air Marshall Konstantinos Bouzos, and Military Attaché of The Embassy of Greece in Canberra, Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, to Commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the 'Battle of Crete( 20May-01June 1941), Honouring the Anzac' s contribution to the defence of the island of Crete in Greece.

Visiting members of the delegation include, First Lieutenant Eleni Theodorou, Officer Lambrini Kokori, Mrs Eleni Botsi and Mrs Vasileia Konou

A special thank you to the Military Attaché of The Embassy of Greece in Canberra, Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, the President of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand, Mr Emmanuel Mountakis and the President of the Cretan Association of South Australia, Mr. Pantelis Fridakis for their co-ordinated efforts in the delegation's visit to South Australia and across Australia and NewZealand.

As we commemorate those who have fallen during the "Battle of Crete" (20 May - 1 June 1941) we celebrate its 85th Anniversary this year.
We remember the great bonds forged between the ANZACs and the Cretan people.
Festival Hellenika brings us this wonderful documentary that truly does show us that even till today those bonds hold dear to us all.

Please attend this special screening on Monday 11th May 2026 and hear the powerful story of this Anzac campaign as told by the veterans.
