The National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA) in partnership with UNDP and it’s stakeholders successfully conducted a Mobile Legal Aid Clinic on the 11th of May to 16th of May. This aimed at bringing essential legal services closer to communities and improving access to justice for all. The initiative serves as an important platform for providing legal assistance, guidance, and support to individuals who may face challenges in accessing legal representation.

Through the Mobile Legal Aid Clinic, NALA continues to promote fairness, equality, and the protection of fundamental rights by ensuring that vulnerable individuals, including those involved in serious cases such as capital offences, receive the necessary legal support and representation required under the law.

The clinic was attended by key justice and human rights stakeholders, including the Judiciary (Cadi), The Police, Social Welfare, National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP), African Centre for Legal Research and Training (ACLRT), Alternative Dispute Resolution Secretariat (ADRS), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

These institutions work within The Gambia’s justice and human rights sectors, contributing to the promotion of justice, protection of rights, legal awareness, and strengthening of the rule of law.

By taking legal services directly to communities, NALA helps bridge the gap between indigenous people and the justice system in The Gambia. The outreach activities create awareness about legal rights and responsibilities, empower people with knowledge, and encourage individuals to seek timely legal assistance when needed.

This initiative reflects NALA’s continued commitment to strengthening the rule of law, promoting human rights, and ensuring that justice is accessible to everyone regardless of their background or circumstances.
