Hi everyone, just back from another inspiring trip to Ghana.
Here is an update & photos from building.
The building is progressing, whilst there the internal windows & door frames were put in and the external made on site and ready to install. Electric sockets switches and fuse box installed, as well as all the internal plumbing for the showers and toilets, the facia painted and the floor was concreted.
The roof was delivered and due to be installed last week but delayed due to missing some guttering – should be going on this week – its all there & ready to go!
The chicken plan has changed as they need to have them away from house, so Seth has purchased more land with the money so more is needed to purchase the chickens etc.
There is a pressing need for a vehicle as the new building is at least 3 kms from Senya and when completed it will be essential to have one.
As you all know there is a desperate need to get the children into the new orphanage as sleeping in day care, with its cramped conditions no toilet or sanitation is causing a lot of sickness, malaria, typhoid, and infected skin conditions.
There are now 9 mosquito nets available & it was sorted out to try to hang in at least 2 of the small rooms to protect the younger children as well as spraying the room & installing a screen door.
Due to typhoid Seth has decided to use filtered water 3 x 500mls per child per day (10 cedi a day)
Also a food supplement/snack twice daily as well as meals provided by feed the orphans. This has been funded at present by money raised by Marcella’s family.
Although most have health insurance as this has been covered by donations, it is covering less & a contribution is still needed for all treatments, it is becoming a major drain on financial resources.
Before moving Seth has planned for all children to have a full health screen (malaria, typhoid, HIV anaemia etc) this will cost 50 cedi per child.
There will be many items needed when move but an important need identified is more permanent staff (house mother) so at least one further employee is needed.
To summarise immediate needs:
Filtered water 10 cedi a day – 300 a month (approx £60/$78) – one month already donated
Food supplements/snacks – same as above – one month already donated
Donations for continuing medical costs.
Screening costs – 50 cedi x 42 = 2100 (£365, $544)
Good condition vehicle for transporting children approx 40,000 cedi (£7000 / $10,400)
During our stay, Colin from Exceed visited. His family & associates are now also raising donations. He travels to Ghana monthly so is able to bring many things needed out from UK. Also, representatives from Feed the Orphans visited. - with Seth Asiedu.
