*ROAD SAFETY EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN DUBBED ACCIDENT ZERO-SAVE LIVES SAVE PROPERTIES*

On Tuesday, 17th December 2025, the Keta Municipal Assembly, through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Directorate, embarked on a road safety educational campaign across selected communities within the municipality. The campaign was led by Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, Municipal NADMO Director, in collaboration with the Keta Ambulance Service and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

The exercise formed part of proactive measures by the Assembly to curb the increasing rate of road traffic accidents and to promote responsible road usage among motorists, motor riders, and pedestrians.

*Areas Covered*
The road safety education was carried out in the following communities:

*Abor Lorry Park*
*Anlo Afiadenyigba*
*Vui Junction*

These areas were strategically selected due to the high level of vehicular and motorbike activities.

*Key Messages and Activities*
In his address, the NADMO Director highlighted the alarming increase in road traffic accidents and their devastating impact on families and communities. He emphasized that many lives lost on the roads are those of parents, children, friends, and loved ones, stressing the urgent need for collective action. He stated that the Keta Municipal Assembly had taken a bold and timely decision to prioritize road safety education across the municipality to reverse this trend.

Personnel from the MTTD educated participants on key road safety regulations. Topics discussed included:

*The importance of wearing helmets and other protective gear*

*Adherence to speed limits*

*Safe road crossing practices*

*The dangers of drinking and driving*

*Respect for traffic regulations and fellow road users*

Further emphasis was placed on dangerous practices such as overloading, overspeeding, and wrongful overtaking, which were identified as major contributors to road accidents. Road users were strongly urged to exercise patience and mutual respect at all times.

The Keta Ambulance Service team took participants through basic emergency response procedures. Practical demonstrations were conducted on how to manage accident victims before they are transported to health facilities. These included:

*Handling unconscious victims*

*Managing suspected spinal injuries*

*Providing first aid to victims with fractures and other injuries*

These practical sessions were well received and helped deepen participants’ understanding of life-saving interventions.

*Participation and Feedback*
Motor riders and drivers actively participated in the campaign and expressed appreciation for the initiative. They described themselves as “Oliver Twists,” indicating their desire for continuous engagement and regular education on road safety matters. Their positive attitude and willingness to learn demonstrated a shared commitment to reducing road accidents.

*Appreciation and Acknowledgements*
The Keta Municipal Assembly extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Wisdom Seade, for his timely support and the strategic measures he continues to implement to enhance road safety within the municipality.

Special thanks also go to the Keta Ambulance Service, the Ghana Police Service MTTD Unit, motor riders, drivers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the campaign.

*Conclusion*
The road safety campaign was timely, impactful, and educative. It reinforced the importance of preventive measures, law enforcement, and emergency response in reducing road traffic accidents. However, road safety is a shared responsibility that requires sustained education, enforcement, and community involvement.

The Keta Municipal Assembly NADMO remains committed to working with all stakeholders to promote safer roads and protect lives within the municipality.

The Keta NADMO Directorate on the 26th November 2025
paid an educational visit to Keta Business College, where we had an engaging and insightful session with the students on disaster prevention, preparedness, and effective response strategies.

As part of efforts to deepen disaster awareness and promote volunteerism among young people, we also initiated the NADMO Disaster Fun Club, creating an opportunity for students to actively participate in safety initiatives, community resilience programs, and disaster‐related activities on campus.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the management and staff of Keta Business College for their warm reception and cooperation. Your commitment to the safety and empowerment of students is commendable.

Keta NADMO believes engaging young people in disaster management is a powerful investment in community resilience. By equipping students with the right knowledge and involving them in structured platforms like the NADMO Disaster Fun Club, we are nurturing a generation that is not only aware but ready to respond responsibly during emergencies. This partnership stands as a model for other institutions to emulate, and we are confident that together, we are building a safer future for all.

Thank you.
