NATIONAL YOUTH AUTHORITY ENGAGES AHAFO STAKEHOLDERS ON YOUTH, PEACE AND SECURITY
The National Youth Authority (NYA) has engaged stakeholders in the Ahafo Region in a two-day consultation meeting to deliberate on the role of young people in promoting peace, security and social cohesion.
The consultation, held from 14th to 15th September 2026 at the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Conference Hall in Goaso, brought together representatives from the NYA Head Office, National Peace Council, Nananom, security agencies, government institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, youth groups, civil society organizations and other relevant stakeholders.
In his welcome address, the Ahafo Regional Director of the NYA, Mr. Sowa Nicholas, welcomed participants to the consultation and underscored the importance of engaging young people in discussions on peace and security. He noted that young people constituted an important segment of society whose involvement was essential to promoting peaceful and resilient communities.
Mr. Sowa encouraged stakeholders to actively participate in the discussions and share practical ideas that could strengthen youth participation in peacebuilding and security-related initiatives. He also emphasised the need for collaboration among institutions and stakeholders to address challenges that could affect young people and community peace.
The meeting provided a platform for participants to discuss the role of young people in preventing conflict, promoting peace and strengthening community security. Participants also examined challenges confronting the youth and explored ways of creating opportunities for their meaningful participation in peacebuilding and decision-making processes.
The consultation further focused on strengthening collaboration among traditional authorities, security agencies, state institutions, civil society organisations, youth groups and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for young people to contribute positively to peace and security.
Participants highlighted the need to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and platforms required to identify and address issues that could potentially lead to conflict and social instability. They also called for sustained peace education, youth engagement and increased opportunities for young people to participate in community-level peacebuilding activities.
The National Youth Authority noted that the inputs gathered from the consultation would contribute to efforts to strengthen youth participation in peace and security and support the development of responsive interventions for young people.
The two-day consultation formed part of efforts by the National Youth Authority to deepen stakeholder engagement and promote the meaningful participation of young people in peace and security across the country.
