Today marks a historic and deeply symbolic moment for Bawku and the entire Kusaug Traditional Area.
As part of activities marking the 38th Annual Samanpiid Festival, I had the honour of attending the official unveiling of the statue of the Zug-Raan of Kusaug, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, a landmark constructed in honour of traditional authority, peace, and national unity.
The unveiling was performed by the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, in the company of key chiefs of the Kusaug Traditional Area, the DCE for Garu, the DCE for Pusiga, and other distinguished stakeholders. Their presence reflected the collective resolve of leadership at all levels to promote unity and stability in Kusaug.
I wish to specially commend the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism in delivering a monument that stands not only as a physical structure, but as a lasting symbol of heritage, leadership, and cohesion.
At this important moment, when Bawku is steadily rediscovering peace, the statue of Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II also represents hope, reconciliation, and a shared future built on respect and lawful coexistence.
As Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, I am encouraged by the strong collaboration demonstrated through this project, between traditional authority, central government, local government, and the security services. This initiative strongly reflects the spirit of the Samanpiid Festival theme: Effective Enforcement of Law and Order as the Key to Sustainable Peace in Kusaug.
May this landmark inspire pride, unity, and responsible citizenship among present and future generations.
Together, we remain committed to building a peaceful, united, and progressive Bawku.
