Prologue:

"When the Namo Naa, Lord of the Drummer-Poets, senses in his spirit the rise of a new Yaa Naa, a new verse rises in his ears, and he can feel the hairs bristle on the ancient skins of Sitobu.

He does not need to summon the Lunsi. They know to come when a new King summons all Dagbon. And this Friday, as great Allah wills, Yoo Naa Abukari Mahama shall mount the great Nam of Yani in a blaze of glory, as the 40th Yaa Naa.

His ankadi will bind the rain, dry the muskets of his chomfo nima and cherlan nima, and the Lunsi know to sing his tributes from that sacred hour, when the Guma Naa cooks the holy yams to pacify the royal lips.

But what is the journey that has brought us here — to Yendi, to the great sambani and courtyards of Naa Gbewaa’s palace, and to this solemn moment?

The Lunsi’s drum-song cannot tell of this, for the King’s beginning on the Great Nam is the only beginning that matters. So it is I, but a mere wayside chronicler, who must humbly bear this duty. I, who cannot sing when the gonje plays, yet it has fallen upon my mouth to tell this saga. I crave your ears."

For now, beasts and birds and men and gifted lunsi cry out in unison:

Long may Dagbon flourish; long may Yaa Naa reign!

And on this day, finally,

A leopard and a hyena do not combine to create a lion.

There is but one Yaa Naa.

And his name is Abukari Mahama, Naa Nyagse’s successor, ruler over all Dagbamba — until Faako Naa himself calls him unto his bosom."

[And on this day, finally Faako Naa himself has called him unto his bosom.]

Rest well the Lion King

The Upper East Regional police commander had secretly released the 21 people arrested for the military es**rt attack in Binduri.
The Ghana Armed Forces , issued a statement after the arrest of the attackers. But the Ghana Police Service, refused to issue a statement on taking custody of the attackers and also failed to arrange them in court for prosecution. The Bawku Municipal Chief, and some of the District Chief Executive in the area met the regional police commander and demanded the release of the attackers as a result the regional police commander secretly released them.

‎Does that mean it was the Nayiri who imposed his sons on these various places Cletus Avoka mentioned? 😂

‎The first settlers of Zebila were ancestors' of Dagliga in the Tallesi Nabdam District, who were hunters that eventually settled in the area, which was then a forest with no prior settlements. They became the royal family of Zebila after being enskinned by the chief of Kurugu and later enskinned by the Bawku Naaba a Mamprusi. Every elder in Zebila is aware of the history and the original chief houses in Zebila. Unfortunately, when they settled in Zebila, few NABDAMS, Frafras, and Mamprusi joined them, but later, many KUSAASIS migrated there, leading to their claims of Zebila as Kusaasi Town.

‎Due to the Bawku chieftaincy issue between Mamprusi and Kusaasi, Lawyer John Ndebugri advised the Kusaasi community Chief in Bawku, Abugrogo Azorka, not to enskin any of the Dagliga family as chiefs of Zebila again. As a result, that royal family has not held any chieftaincy since.

‎The Kusasis don't own any land in the Bawku Traditional Area. Given that the Kusasis weren't the first settlers of even Zebilla, where they're the majority. It's illogical for them to be considered the founders of Bawku. Historically, the family from the Nabdam area that settled in Zebilla first were of Mamprusi descent.

‎Syme wrote on page 81 of his book 'The Kusasis-A Short History (1932) that: "Mention has already been made of how the original settlers in Zebilla were two brothers named Aputoba and Abiongo from Detokko in Talansi / Nabdam country (Frafra)". Before the kusasis arrived.

‎Apotuba's sister was married to a Mamprusi man at Nalerigu. At the time, a bush-cow was harassing people near the main dry-season water source located at the outskirts of Nalerigu. Apotuba was a great hunter, and on hearing this news from his sister during a visit to Nalerigu, he tracked and succeeded in hunting down the elusive beast.

Upper East Region moves to revive Bawku inter-ethnic peace committee as part of efforts to restore peace in Bawku

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has announced plans to revive the inter-ethnic peace committee in Bawku as part of renewed efforts to help restore lasting peace in the conflict-hit area.

According to the Minister, the Regional Coordinating Council has already engaged the Regional Peace Council to begin discussions with local actors and community leaders aimed at promoting dialogue and reconciliation.

Hon. Akamugri disclosed this on Thursday when the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, paid a courtesy call on him at the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council.

“We have engaged our regional peace council to begin some kind of negotiations, to reach out to individuals, to see how we can chart a new path,” the Minister said. “We are also looking at how we can revive the inter-ethnic peace council that was existing before, so that we can also be doing our bit.”

He noted that while the military had played a critical role in preventing the conflict from escalating, long-term peace would require the involvement of chiefs, opinion leaders and community members.

“They [the security agencies] can provide protection and prevent us from open conflict, but when you want to really resolve and integrate properly, you need the other actors and the people on the ground,” he stated.

The Regional Minister commended the military and other security agencies for their sacrifices in maintaining peace and protecting lives in the region, especially in Bawku.

“We are particularly happy about your intervention in Bawku because it became something we could not contain if not for the intervention of the military,” he said.

Hon. Akamugri also called for stricter enforcement of curfew regulations in Bawku, expressing concern about continued reports of gunshots during curfew hours.

“When a curfew is imposed and people sti
