Ernest Brogya Genfi

The Ministry of Defence, has held a farewell ceremony at The Square, to mark the end of the tenure of the Deputy Defence Minister, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, celebrating his dedicated service, leadership and significant contribution to the Defence sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Defence Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, commended Hon Brogya Genfi for his commitment and invaluable contribution to the Ministry. He particularly acknowledged his role in ensuring continuity following the untimely passing of the late Defence Minister, Hon Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, as he worked closely with the Acting Minister, Management and the Military High Command during the difficult period. Hon Adjei further expressed appreciation for the support, cooperation and institutional knowledge Hon Brogya Genfi shared with him upon assuming office and wished him success in his future endeavours.

In his valedictory speech, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Defence Minister, Chief Director, Management and staff of the Ministry, the Military High Command and allied partners for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure. He noted that the achievements recorded during his time in office were the result of teamwork, professionalism and a shared commitment to national security. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of commemorative gifts and citations of honour from the Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces.

Gracing the ceremony were the Acting Chief Director, Madam Comfort Kyereme; the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; the Service Chiefs; and Management and staff of the Ministry. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate Hon Brogya Genfi’s service and acknowledge his contribution to the advancement of Ghana’s Defence sector.

The German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency (HE) Frederik Landshöft, accompanied by the German Defence Attaché to Ghana, Commander Holger Grossmann, have paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Defence, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at The Square. The visit was to congratulate the Minister on his appointment and explore avenues for strengthening defence and security cooperation between Ghana and Germany.

Receiving the delegation, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei welcomed the Ambassador and expressed appreciation for Germany’s longstanding partnership with Ghana. The Minister described Germany as a trusted friend and partner that has consistently supported Ghana over the years, particularly in strengthening the capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He said Ghana remained committed to deepening bilateral defence and security relations with Germany, noting that support provided through the German Military Advisory Group and various military training programmes had made a significant impact on the professional development and operational capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Hon Gilbert Adjei commended Germany for its continued contribution to defence capacity-building, particularly in the areas of logistics and equipment support, which he said had significantly enhanced the operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces. He further stated that Ghana was committed to establishing a stronger foundation for bilateral military cooperation through expanded collaboration in military training, officer exchange programmes and technical assistance.

The Minister also welcomed increased German cooperation in naval training, surveillance and intelligence sharing, describing these areas as critical to Ghana’s evolving maritime and national security needs. He acknowledged Germany’s important role in promoting peace and stability across Africa and expressed Ghana’s readiness to deepen cooperation in intelligence sharing and border security. According to the Minister, stronger collaboration in these areas would be essential in addressing emerging security threats, particularly the growing threat of violent extremism and its potential impact on the West African sub-region.

HE Frederik Landshöft said the longstanding partnership between the two countries had resulted in several initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s defence capabilities. He cited the Signal School at Burma Camp, the construction of a maintenance hub in Tamale, a satellite station in Bolgatanga, the Dog Academy and support for the Airfield as some of the key projects undertaken through the bilateral defence cooperation.

According to the Ambassador, the maintenance hub in Tamale is expected to be commissioned in October 2026 and will provide facilities for the maintenance of large and specialised machinery, further enhancing the Ghana Armed Forces’ logistical and operational capabilities.

Ambassador Landshöft said the various projects reflected the depth of cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts to strengthen its defence and security institutions. He also commended the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for what he described as his approach to addressing emerging security challenges in the Sahel region.

He noted that Ghana’s strategic position and its approach to regional security made continued cooperation with Germany particularly important in efforts to promote peace, stability and security within the West African sub-region.

Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Wael Fathy Ahmed, has paid a working visit to the Minister for Defence, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at The Square in Accra, as part of efforts to strengthen defence cooperation and deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and Egypt.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to familiarize himself with the operations of the Ministry of Defence and to explore areas for enhanced collaboration between the two countries.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei expressed Ghana’s appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding friendship and partnership with the country. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defence relations with Egypt, particularly in the areas of defence manufacturing, technology transfer and capacity building.

The Minister commended Egypt for its continued support to the Ghana Armed Forces through specialised training for military engineers, healthcare professionals and technical officers. He noted that strengthening the capabilities of the 48 Engineer Regiment, particularly in disaster response and infrastructure protection, remains a national priority.

Hon Gilbert Adjei also acknowledged Egypt’s extensive experience in border security, intelligence and cybersecurity. He proposed deeper cooperation in intelligence-sharing, joint military exercises and specialised training as part of efforts to enhance regional security and counter violent extremism in West Africa.

In response, Ambassador Wael Fathy Ahmed congratulated Hon Gilbert Adjei on his appointment as Minister for Defence and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued cooperation with Ghana.

The Ambassador assured the Minister of Egypt’s readiness to support the Ghana Armed Forces in key areas including cybersecurity, intelligence-sharing, training and border security. He also expressed Egypt’s willingness to share its expertise and experience in these fields with Ghana.

HE Fathy Ahmed further highlighted the potential for Ghana and Egypt to explore joint ventures in defence manufacturing and technology transfer. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to providing specialised training opportunities for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The engagement underscored the shared commitment of Ghana and Egypt to expanding defence cooperation, enhancing institutional capacity and contributing to peace and security in Ghana and the wider West African region.

The Ministry of Defence has organized an intensive orientation programme at The Square to formally welcome onboard newly posted civil servants into defence administration. The initiative was designed to give the incoming personnel a clear understanding of the institution’s core mandate, administrative structures and expected professional standards, ensuring a smooth transition into their new roles.

Welcoming the officers on behalf of the Defence Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Director of Human Resources, Madam Comfort Kyereme, stated that the orientation was aimed at equipping the officers with the necessary information to enable them to effectively perform their duties and appreciate the work of the Ministry. She encouraged them to uphold professionalism, confidentiality and anonymity, punctuality as well as collaborate with colleagues and contribute meaningfully to the Ministry’s objectives. Madam Kyereme also cautioned the staff on the importance of maintaining absolute confidentiality and anonymity and adhere to the Ministry's established Code of Conduct to uphold the good name of the Ministry.

Representatives from the various Directorates took turns delivering detailed presentations to ensure the new personnel are well-equipped for their various assignments. The sessions provided an in-depth knowledge on the various departmental functions and specific unit responsibilities, standard operational workflows and official communication protocols.

The Deputy Judge Advocate General, Col Ernest Awuah-Ameyaw swore in the new staff. He led them to take the Oath of Secrecy, Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office.

The orientation concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing the new civil servants a platform to engage leadership, clarify civil service procedures and discuss career progression and workplace expectations.

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), has held its 50th Anniversary Joint Graduation Ceremony for Senior Command and Staff Course 47. A total of 90 officers comprising 64 from the Ghana Armed Forces and civil sector as well as 26 from allied African countries graduated with the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics and the Master of Science in Security Studies, 2026 at the Hamidu Hall, Teshie.

The graduation marked the successful completion of a rigorous academic studies designed to enhance the leadership, analytical and communication skills of senior-level officers to prepare them for command and staff responsibilities in their respective Armed Forces and their institutions. The students had an intensive training including leadership, military operations, intelligence, diplomacy as well as defence and security studies.

Delivering the keynote address, on behalf of the Vice President and Chairperson of the Armed Forces Council, Her Excellency Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the Defence Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, congratulated the graduands on the successful completion of the course and described the occasion as a significant milestone in their careers. He noted that the course had broadened their professional outlook through lectures, seminars, practical and study tours delivered by experienced military officers, academics and experts from various institutions. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired would enable the graduands to effectively manage the multidimensional security challenges confronting their respective countries.

He also commended the College for its continued contribution to professional military education and praised the participation of allied officers as a testament to the strong cooperation among African Armed Forces. He noted that international demand for training at GAFCSC continues to rise, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding the institution’s infrastructure to prepare strategic thinkers who can lead with foresight and integrity.

Awards were presented to officers who distinguished themselves during the course. Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi of the Ghana Army was adjudged the Overall Best Student.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) Female Civil Servant Soccer Team led by the Director
Human Resource of the ministry Madam Comfort Kyereme has presented the awards it
earned during the 2026 Civil Service Week Celebration soccer competition to the Chief
Director of the Ministry, Mr Emmanuel Kartey.

The presentation took place at Mr Kartey’s office, where members of the team showcased the
silver medals and trophy secured through an impressive campaign at the competition.

The MoD female side delivered a sterling performance throughout the tournament, finishing
as second-best team to claim the silver medals. Adding to the team’s achievements, Madam
Asare Gifty was individually recognised for her outstanding performances between the posts,
receiving the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

The presentation underscored the team’s commitment, teamwork and competitive spirit,
while highlighting the growing contribution of female civil servants to sports and physical
fitness within the public service
