The Guernsey Police Annual Report for 2024 was published last week, and 232 sexual offences made up part of the 2,197 crimes reported during the year.
This was a significant rise in the number of reported offences, however at Willow House our aim is to give people a safe and private place to come and talk about what might have happened to them, so we are encouraged to see people having the confidence to report an offence.
When someone reports an act of sexual violence to the police, we work closely alongside officers and use our expertise to ensure the best possible care. Willow House provides forensic evidence gathering, medical management such as emergency contraception, and the victim can also have access to ongoing therapeutic support.
For victims who do not wish to report to the police straight away, Willow House can be contacted directly to provide the same care options, however the evidence is stored appropriately until the victim feels they may wish to report.
We understand that reaching out to someone can be one of the most daunting first steps for a victim of sexual assault, but once you do, it can open up a range of recovery options.
