Future Guernsey

Future Guernsey Build tomorrow. Together. We believe in a bright future for islanders, where Guernsey is a welcoming, optimistic place with widespread prosperity.

Future Guernsey is a policy-led political movement offering islanders a chance to break the current inertia, deliver real change, and positively impact everyday lives now and in the future. We believe that, with the right leadership, our unique heritage can go hand-in-hand with progress to meet the challenges facing the next generation, creating a thriving place that islanders are proud to call ‘h

ome’. That’s why we have created Future Guernsey. Future Guernsey is a policy-led political movement offering Guernsey a chance to break the current inertia, deliver real change, and positively impact everyday lives now and in the future. We will be collaborative, professional, and disciplined in evidence-based policy making and implementation. As a cohesive group with coherent policies—developed collaboratively with industry leaders and islanders —voters will know exactly what they are voting for, how we plan to deliver it, and who to hold accountable for doing so. Policy is nothing without delivery, and that’s why we have a dedicated working group, solely focussed on ensuring we have the capacity and capability to deliver the policies and changes required. This group is drawn from local experts in legislation, public service, and business management. With our policy-focussed manifesto, we will encourage a new generation of Deputies who act with integrity and ability to pledge their support for Future Guernsey and, if elected, consistently deliver the whole platform in the States of Deliberation. Most likely, that will require the formation of a political party, so the electorate can see who is committed to Future Guernsey’s policy plan. We acknowledge the rich tradition of independence in Guernsey and will of course work in collaboration with those who do not wish to join a party but who share all, or even some, of our policy goals.

Next week, islanders will be asked to fill one vacant seat in the States of Deliberation.

We dearly hope that voters will engage with the upcoming by-election, and visit their polling stations on Wednesday, 29th April. If you weren’t registered last time, but are eligible to vote, you can still sign up, as long as you do so before the 25th April.

In case you missed it, last week our CEO Lindsey Freeman spoke to the BBC about the package of measures we put forward in our manifesto to support first time buyers to get onto the housing ladder. Our policies support both individuals and developers by incentivising the development of more homes in the affordable bracket.

We're keenly aware that it's not just first-time buyers who struggle with the cost of housing and it's an issue causing stress for far too many of us. By specifically targeting first-time buyer housing stock, our policies are designed to ease demand across the board, unlocking opportunities for buyers across the housing market.

Calls have been made for first-time property buyers in Guernsey to have more help from banks and the government 🏘

We are delighted that a Tax Review Sub Committee has been formed, in line with the recommendation we made in our manifesto.

If you’ve read “Our Plan for Guernsey 2025-29 and Beyond”, you will know that we support a staged approach to reform of our fiscal system, as we don't think that the States should be asking people to pay more in the form of GST+ until it has both explored other revenue raising options and taken steps to contain spending.

The experts we worked with on our fiscal policy working group set out a clear ambition for the new States Assembly to prepare a revised tax and social security package by March 2026.

Could we finally see an end to the “to GST or not to GST” debate..? 🤞

We’ve been taking a pause to reflect on the past few weeks but couldn’t miss the opportunity to send our congratulations go to all the Presidents, Vice Presidents and committee members, as well as the whole of the States Assembly, which has – so far – shown a collegiate approach to organising itself and a willingness to get on and get things done.

We were delighted to see that candidates who supported our manifesto – and who had a hand in writing it – were successfully elected into positions which match their skillset. Their roles at the heart of government give our manifesto a real chance of being the blueprint for Government that we always hoped it would become.

Now comes the very real business of governing this island in a way which can demonstrably move forward, and we will be here to support all Deputies in any way we can.

Let’s build tomorrow. Together.

We're delighted to see that one of the policies we put forward in our manifesto has already been adopted, even before the first meeting of the new States Assembly!

Like all of our policies, this idea came from the community. Our tax policy working group helped us to shape a comprehensive and achievable six stage plan to balance the books and get Guernsey's finances back on track.

If you haven't had a chance to read the plan, it's on pages 17-22 here https://tinyurl.com/futureguernseymanifesto

Change isn’t easy. Disrupting the status quo and trying to break the cycle of inertia isn’t something that can be delivered overnight. But that was our mission when we set out to create a political movement, focussed on policy-based politics.

The choices made by islanders who went to the polls make clear that they’re also ready for change. More than half of the new States Assembly will be made up of new faces, and the fresh cohort will better reflect our community than the previous group of Deputies.

So, if change is clearly what we want, how do we deliver it? Our manifesto is an example of how, by collaborating with the community, we can put in place a solid, realistic and achievable plan for the next four years and beyond. We’d urge all newly elected States members to consider supporting our policies, and we stand ready to collaborate with all members of the new government, the Civil Service, charities and professional associations to deliver the change islanders so clearly wish to see.

Let’s build tomorrow. Together.

You're welcome 😊

If you miss the postal vote deadline, your postal vote pack can be put in the Sir Charles Frossard House post box or brought to any polling station before 8pm on Polling Day.

It must be handed to the polling station staff in accordance with the instructions in your pack.

A postal vote without the accompanying form and envelopes cannot be accepted by polling station staff, and the votes will not be counted.

Our policies are built by islanders, for islanders.

We went out into the community and asked people for their time and expertise - and they delivered. It's testament to the spirit of Guernsey that we were able to build our manifesto in this way and that we now have a cohesive, well-researched and deliverable set of policies which we truly believe can build a better future for Guernsey.

Mel Carvill is one of those islanders who helped us build the economic policy. If you're interested to hear how it was created and Mel's take on the challenges we currently face, do take a look...

Still deciding who to vote for? You're not the only one! 🫣

It's a daunting task to choose between so many candidates, but the advice is to try and use as many of your votes as you can because, however many candidates you vote for, 38 will still be elected. Let's make it the best 38 we possibly can! 🤞

If you like Future Guernsey's policies, look out for candidates who support our manifesto as a whole, or in part. 🗳️ ❌
