Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service

Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service The modern Fire & Rescue Service in Guernsey embraces all aspects of fire fighting and fire prevention, as do our colleagues in the UK.

Guernsey, however, cannot benefit from any early assistance from a neighbouring Service and therefore has to be self-sufficient.

Yesterday, teams from across the island’s emergency and rescue services took part in a successful major training exercise simulating a fuel tanker fire on the North Side in Vale.

Led by the Fire & Rescue Service, the exercise brought together crews from Guernsey Police, Guernsey Civil Protection and Ambulance and Rescue Guernsey to practise and refine multi agency response procedures. These scenarios are designed to test how effectively we work together when every second counts.

We’re especially grateful to Channel Island Fuels for their vital role in both the planning and delivery of the exercise, helping ensure everything ran safely and smoothly.

Exercises like this are essential. They allow us to rehearse complex, high risk situations so that we are prepared when a real incident occurs. Practising our joint response helps to save lives. Yesterday’s training showed effective multi agency cooperation.

A reminder that this evening we're leading a joint emergency services exercise on Northside and Castle Road.

There will be sirens and emergency services in the area between approximately 5:30 and 8:30, but please don't be alarmed.

We're practicing our joint working and emergency response to make sure we're ready to protect the community when a live incident occurs.

Next Wednesday Guernsey's emergency services will be carrying out a training exercise on North Side in Vale. The Fire & Rescue Service led exercise is an opportunity for a wide range of teams from different services to put into practice their multi-agency working procedures.

While the exercise is ongoing, a stretch of Castle Road, starting from Abraham's Bosom, will be closed to the public, and cordons will be in place. Cars parked in the area will not be accessible during the early evening.

Emergency Services will be responding as if it were a real incident, so if you see blue lights and hear sirens, please do not be alarmed. We're training to make sure we do the best job possible when a real incident happens and we need to keep the community safe.

🚨 39 MILES. 1 ISLAND. TOMORROW IS THE DAY! 🚨

This Saturday, three members of our Red Watch crew—Firefighters Craig Mollet, Matt France, and Russell Lambourne—are stepping up for this year’s Saffery Rotary Island Walk.

The 39-mile coastal course is grueling enough on its own, but these guys are taking it a step further. They will be tackling the entire perimeter of the island in full firefighting kit, while alternating carrying the grueling extra weight of a breathing apparatus set.

They are pushing their limits to raise funds for brilliant local causes. If you are able to support them, please hit the link below to donate and show your backing!

Many of us will no doubt be enjoying barbeques on the island’s beaches throughout the summer season. So we’d like to share some advice for islanders on how to stay safe when cooking food on the beach, while remaining respectful to the local environment:

☀️ To safely extinguish a barbeque, embers and surrounding sand, douse them in water until they are cold. If the barbeque is disposed while still hot, bins can catch fire and cause harm to wildlife and other people.

☀️ Dispose of the cold remnants properly by either taking them home or by placing them carefully in a litter bin.

☀️ Barbeques can only be lit between 5pm and midnight on the island’s north and west coast beaches, excluding the Richmond end of Vazon.

☀️ They are not to be held on the South or East coasts, i.e. from Soldier’s Bay to Pleinmont.

☀️ They should be lit in a small fire bowl or bucket.

☀️ Permission is required for beach barbeques to be attended by more than 50 people. You can apply for permission here: gov.gg/BBQform

All your litter from a trip to the beach should be placed safely in the appropriate litter bin or taken home with you. Avoid taking glass as it is easily broken causing risk of injury to yourself and other beach users.

Please respect other beach users by following these steps – it helps keep Guernsey’s beaches as a safe and beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.

“Out on a shout”…. Two Guernsey Fire Appliances were turned out for two separate calls at the same time. This is a common sight… shoes left behind ready for the safe return of their owners.

Have a happy and safe Bank Holiday weekend 🚒🇬🇬😎☀️
