Guernsey’s first female doctor is set to be honoured with a Blue Plaque.

Amelia Le Pelley broke through the barriers facing women in medicine in the late 19th century, becoming the first woman to practise medicine in Guernsey and one of the earliest women from the Channel Islands to qualify as a doctor.

The plaque will be unveiled at Queen’s Road Medical Practice on Saturday 27th June at 1pm. The site was formerly The Ladies’ College where Amelia studied in the 1880s.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the unveiling and celebrate Amelia's legacy.

The States have agreed the last of several grants to Guernsey Housing Association to support the development of 70 units of Affordable Housing on the former CI Tyres site, now known as ‘Court Falaise’. These grants have totalled £10.7m toward the purchase of the land in 2022 and its upcoming development.

‘Affordable Housing’ means homes which are reserved for households who can't afford to rent or buy in the private market and includes social housing, key worker housing, specialised housing and intermediate market housing, which includes partial ownership.

This has been funded through the Affordable Housing Development Programme, which was recently re-affirmed by the Assembly as an important delivery programme. The Committee for Housing and the Policy & Resources Committee have approved the final development proposal for the site which will consist of 61 one-bedroom and 9 two-bedroom homes.
