signated hour – Earth Hour. By taking part in this global ‘lights out’ event they will be acknowledging their commitment to a personal action that benefits the planet in the year ahead. By turning off all non-essential lighting during Earth Hour 2014, committing to a positive action for the planet and encouraging our citizens to do the same, you will help lead the burgeoning global resolve to realize our role as custodians of the planet. Earth Hour also provides an excellent forum for all citizens, including business, individuals, parents and educators, to hold meaningful discussions about the ways that our community can take action and be part of the solution to our environmental challenges. Earth Hour began as a single-city initiative – in Sydney, Australia – in 2007 and has since grown into a global movement with hundreds of millions of people from more than 5,000 cities and towns in 135 countries/territories across every continent switching off their lights for Earth Hour 2011, creating history as the world’s greatest ever environmental action. Some of the world’s most famous man-made marvels and natural wonders, including China’s Forbidden City, Eiffel Tower, Table Mountain, Great Pyramids of Egypt, Buckingham Palace, Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, Niagara and Victoria Falls, Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House and many more global icons stood in darkness as a powerful symbol of landmark environmental action. Earth Hour 2014 is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to take responsibility for our environmental impact and join a growing international community who are committed to leading global environmental change. კლიმატის ცვლილებისა და გლობალური დათბობის თემაზე მსოფლიოშიცნობიერების ასამაღლებლად შაბათს, 2014 წლის 29 მარტს ადგილობრივი დროით საღამოს 8:30 საათიდან 9:30 საათამდე ჩატარდება ყოველწლიური გლობალური მასშტაბის აქცია – ”დედამიწის საათი 2014”. აქციის ფარგლებში მსოფლიოს ქვეყნებში ერთი საათით გამოირთვება ეკონომიკური, პოლიტიკური და კულტურული მნიშვნელობის ძეგლებისა და შენობების ელექტროგანათება. აქცია ტარდება ბუნების დაცვის მსოფლიო ფონდის (WWF) ინიციატივით და მისი მიზანია მსოფლიო ლიდერთა მიერ სათბურის აირების ემისიების შემცირების თაობაზე აღებული ვალდებულებების შესრულების მხარდაჭერა.
აქციის მსვლელობისას გამოირთვება ისეთი მნიშვნელოვანი შენობების განათება როგორიცაა სიდნეის საოპერო თეატრი, სან–ფრანცისკოს ”გოლდენ გეით” ხიდი, რომის კოლიზეუმი, კუალა ლუმპურის პეტრონასის კოშკები, ნიუ იორკის ემფაირ სთეით ბილდინგი, ეიფელის კოშკი პარიზში, ბრანდენბერგის კარიბჭე ბერლინში, სფინქსი და პირამიდები გიზაში და ა.შ. 2014 წლის აქციაში მონაწილეობას მიიღებს ათასობით ქალაქი და სიმბოლური მნიშვნელობის ასობით ძეგლი. აქციაში ჩაერთვება მოსახლეობაც, რომელიც ერთი საათის განმავლობაში გამორთავს ელექტროგანათებასა და ელექტროხელსაწყოებს საცხოვრებელ სახლებში.
კავკასიის გარემოსდაცვითი არასამთავრობო ორგანიზაციების ქსელის (CENN), საქართველოში გაეროს განვითარების პროგრამის (UNDP), საქართველოს გარემოს დაცვის სამინისტროსა და ბუნების დაცვის მსოფლიო ფონდის (WWF) მიზანია, გასული წლის მსგავსად, უზრუნველყოს ამ ინიციატივაში საქართველოს ჩართვა. დედამიწის საათი 2012 და 2013-ის პერიოდში CENN–ის ინიციატივითა და თბილისის მერიასთან თანამშრომლობით გამოირთო თბილისის სატელევიზიო ანძისა და ქალაქის მუნიციპალური შენობების გარე განათება. გარემოს დაცვის სამინისტროსა და გაეროს განვითარების პროგრამის ორგანიზებით ჩატარდა "დედამიწის საათისადმი" მიძღვნილი ღონისძიებები.
