Well here it is.........our final post to conclude what was a fantastic civic year for the City of York...
Today, last years civic party hosted a coffee morning at the fabulous Middlethorpe Hall for a number of local York charities who have benefitted from our record breaking year of fundraising.
As we've already published on here, Cllr Gillies's chosen charities at the start of the year were York Against Cancer and York Teaching Hospital Charity. They requested donations to go towards for a new minibus (used to transport patients for treatment to Leeds) and a self dialysis machine for the Renal Unit (giving their patients more control over their treatment), respectively.
Well, we didn't just donate to those causes, we bought both the minibus and the dialysis machine outright! Combined, these chosen charities received over £58,000 from the Lord Mayors Charities 2014/15!
I'm sure you'll agree, both very worthy causes, but...and here's some great news...we still had thousands of pounds left over!
Cllr Gillies & team therefore put their heads together to identify other local charities to make donations to.
We are proud therefore to announce that the below Charities also benefitted from our efforts:
York Normandy Veterans Association
St Leonards Hospice
York Hospital Radio
Lord Mayors Scout group
SASH (Safe And Sound Homes)
York Civic Trust
York Archaeological Trust
National Trust
York Young Carers Centre
York Civic Youth Choir - the choir was the brainchild of Cllr Gillies and made their debut at the Civic Gala Concert held at the Barbican in March. The donation to the Choir is to ensure their continuation.
We are also in the process of purchasing a defibrillator for the city Centre.
In addition to all this, we also arranged for over 20 Young Carers to be treated to a meal at the Jinnah Restaurant for the evening.
We would like to thank every single person & company who supported our efforts be that by donating (including their time) and/or attendinng one of our many events throughout the year.
We had a fantastic time supporting the Lord Mayors Charities, we've laughed and cried, we've made some strong friendships along the way, and created some fabulous memories!
All that remains now is for us to announce is our total!
Together, we raised £69,235.22!
A record breaking civic year!
Thank you once again for your support!
