Well here it is.........our final post to conclude what was a fantastic civic year for the City of York...

Today, last years civic party hosted a coffee morning at the fabulous Middlethorpe Hall for a number of local York charities who have benefitted from our record breaking year of fundraising.

As we've already published on here, Cllr Gillies's chosen charities at the start of the year were York Against Cancer and York Teaching Hospital Charity. They requested donations to go towards for a new minibus (used to transport patients for treatment to Leeds) and a self dialysis machine for the Renal Unit (giving their patients more control over their treatment), respectively.

Well, we didn't just donate to those causes, we bought both the minibus and the dialysis machine outright! Combined, these chosen charities received over £58,000 from the Lord Mayors Charities 2014/15!

I'm sure you'll agree, both very worthy causes, but...and here's some great news...we still had thousands of pounds left over!

Cllr Gillies & team therefore put their heads together to identify other local charities to make donations to.

We are proud therefore to announce that the below Charities also benefitted from our efforts:

York Normandy Veterans Association
St Leonards Hospice
York Hospital Radio
Lord Mayors Scout group
SASH (Safe And Sound Homes)
York Civic Trust
York Archaeological Trust
National Trust
York Young Carers Centre
York Civic Youth Choir - the choir was the brainchild of Cllr Gillies and made their debut at the Civic Gala Concert held at the Barbican in March. The donation to the Choir is to ensure their continuation.
We are also in the process of purchasing a defibrillator for the city Centre.

In addition to all this, we also arranged for over 20 Young Carers to be treated to a meal at the Jinnah Restaurant for the evening.

We would like to thank every single person & company who supported our efforts be that by donating (including their time) and/or attendinng one of our many events throughout the year.

We had a fantastic time supporting the Lord Mayors Charities, we've laughed and cried, we've made some strong friendships along the way, and created some fabulous memories!

All that remains now is for us to announce is our total!
Together, we raised £69,235.22!
A record breaking civic year!

Thank you once again for your support!

As promised, and somewhat later than planned due to availability of numerous people, a further update on our fantastic fundraising efforts last year:

Not only did we bring news in the summer announcing our pleasure helping York Against Cancer in purchasing, outright, their new minibus http://m.yorkpress.co.uk/news/12953125.York_Against_Cancer_raises___150k_to__fund_new_bus__providing_free_transport_for_patients/

We were today invited to York Hospital again to see the fruits of our labours, your kind support & donations once again. This time to see the new self dialysis machine & accessories for the Renal department patients.

Cllr Gillies at the start of his mayoral year wished to contribute to the self dialysis machine, ( http://m.yorkpress.co.uk/news/11690629.Lord_Mayor_backing_appeal_to_buy_new_dialysis_machine_for_kidney_patients/ ) again, & like the minibus, he & his team are extremely proud to have been able to purchase not just the dialysis machine but also all the accessories required. We have also contributed financially to ensuring the room in which the machine will be housed has the required specialised flooring & facilities.

Thank you once again to everyone who supported our efforts!

Over £57,000 raised which has enabled us to purchase the minibus & dialysis machine outright! A fantastic effort by the team, our supporters & local businesses I'm sure you'll agree, but, we're still not finished!

Well, the year has ended. But what a year it has been!!

We are VERY proud to confirm that we have beaten all records for funds raised by a civic party!

There's still monies due in so we can't give a final total as yet, but we have a meeting booked for later this month to confirm & finalise finances etc. We will let you know as soon as we do.

We set out to raise money to make what we hoped would be a sizeable donation to York Against Cancer for their brand new minibus, and to York Teaching Hospital for a new self dialysis machine.
Last month, we can confirm, we didn't make those 'sizeable donations'......we bought BOTH OUTRIGHT!

We had a fantastic civic & fundraising team for the 2014/15 civic year who helped make it all possible, but we also has fantastic support! Thank you to each & every one of you for your efforts.

Watch this space for the final total.......& thank you once again for your support!

What a busy weekend!
First up was the Gurkha curry night at The Guildhall, what a night, great food & entertainment!
Early start today at the Car Boot sale in Huntington, many cars/vans braved the cold wind & rain to sell their wares and even more turned up hunting for a bargain! Both events successes though mean more pennies in the pot for The Lord Mayors Charities!
Next up...Golf Day!
Thank you for your support!
