🔎Murder Mystery script writing competition
Budding writers and murder mystery fans are invited to enter the Wrexham Carnival of Words Murder Mystery Script Writing Competition 2026. The Competition is open to any author with an original script that fits the brief and has never been published before.

📅The competition will run from 1 August – 30 October 2026 and the winning author will receive a cash prize of £100. The script will also be performed by local amateur actors at next year’s Murder Mystery evening during the Wrexham Carnival of Words literary festival in April 2027. The competition will be judged by best-selling author Simon McCleave who is a patron of the Wrexham Carnival of Words.

Simon McCleave is a multi million-selling crime novelist who lives in North Wales. He previously worked as a script editor at the BBC and a producer at Channel 4. He became a script writer for series such as Silent Witness, The Bill, EastEnders . His first book, The Snowdonia Killings, was released in January 2020 became an Amazon number 1 selling over 400,000 copies. His 21 subsequent novels in the DI Ruth Hunter Snowdonia Series have all been Amazon bestsellers. He has sold over 3.5 million books to date.

After studying Law at King's College London, Claire Quinn returned to the Northwest. She worked in Manchester for an international law firm for before switching to writing and country life in the Cotswolds. She has taken part in a mentoring programme with Blue Pencil Agency and Claire's work has been longlisted for both the Cheshire Novel Prize and the Exeter Novel Prize. Back for a second year Clwyd Crime Fest sees crime authors visit the region over two great days of events. Leading the charge on Wednesday 16th September at Mold Library, 2.00pm will be Simon McCleave in a panel event with Claire Quinn. This event will be followed later that day by bestselling author Tom Hindle, again at Mold Library at 7.00pm. Caroline Corcoran and Katy Brent will be entertaining us at Wrexham Library on Thursday 17th September, 2.00pm followed by bestselling author Alex Hay later that day at 7.00pm again at Wrexham Library.
