Completed in 1310, Chirk is the last Welsh castle from the reign of Edward I that's still lived in today.

A medieval castle, gardens and estate cared for by the National Trust Wales. Features from its 700 years include the medieval tower and dungeon, 17th-century Long Gallery, grand 18th-century state apartments, servants' hall and historic laundry. The award-winning gardens contain clipped yews, herbaceous borders, shrub and rock gardens. A terrace with stunning views looks out over the Cheshire and Salop plains. The parkland provides a habitat for rare invertebrates, wild flowers and contains many mature trees and also some splendid wrought-iron gates, made in 1719 by the Davies brothers. Mae ffin newydd yn cael ei gosod o amgylch y gastanwydden bêr yng Nghastell y Waun i ddiogelu ei gwreiddiau rhag cywasgu pellach ar y pridd.

Mae'r goeden annwyl hon, sy'n oddeutu 600 oed, bellach yn cael ei diogelu'n ofalus yn sgil cyngor gan arbenigwyr coedyddiaeth.

A new boundary is being created around Chirk Castle’s sweet chestnut to protect its roots from further soil compaction.

Around 600 years old, this much-loved tree is now being carefully protected following specialist arboricultural advice.

You can still walk around it and admire it up close - just from a little further back.

And there’s a special connection in the fence too: it’s made from sweet chestnut wood. Run your hand along the timber as you explore, while helping protect the living tree beside it.

From 1 September, pick up a Pooch Passport at Chirk Castle and start collecting stamps as you explore National Trust places with your dog.

Visit different participating places to collect stamps along the way, with dog treats and an exclusive Pooch Passport pin badge up for grabs.

Just ask the welcome team when you arrive at Chirk Castle – they’ll be happy to tell you more and help you get started.

Summer of Play continues at Chirk Castle and there’s plenty more to discover around the garden too.

Summer colour continues in the Rose Garden, where you can still spot roses among the borders and catmint attracting an orchestra of buzzing insects. Beyond the Rose Garden, seasonal planting and vibrant borders can be found throughout the 5.5-acre garden.

Mae yna gorneli tawelach hefyd: cadeiriau i eistedd arnynt, gêm gystadleuol o wyddbwyll neu Connect Four, a digon o le i gamu’n ôl a chael ail-wynt.

Play in Paradise is full of life... sandpits, music and play, but you don’t have to be on the go all the time.

There are quieter corners too: deck chairs to sit in, a competitive game of chess or Connect Four, and plenty of space to step back and catch your breath.

Watch Wrexham Fencing Club in action, then pick up a foil and try fencing for yourself at Chirk Castle Gardens.

Friendly instructors will introduce you to the skills, speed and strategy behind the sport, with have-a-go sessions suitable for children and adults of all ages.

Avoiding smoking in the garden and parkland. If you do, make sure ci******es are fully extinguished and take butts with you to dispose of.

Taking all of your litter home.
