Great to see Next of Kin settle into its vibe and nicely move along towards becoming yet another fabulous local favourite. 🍹🍸🍺

My pic of our drinks didn't come out (old, tired, slow phone) but here's food my friends grabbed before their film at the Connaught Cinema. Burger - no buns and giant portion of fries 🍟🍟🍟 OK I reckon I ate half of that 😉😉😉

A winning combo of drinks + meal + movie - a great way to support a real homegrown independent establishment. Affordable pints btw! 🌟🌟🌟

Sooo... How do we feel about this?

EDIT: Those of you who've been following me for a bit will know that I normally celebrate the opening of almost all new businesses (NOT GAMBLING or V**E shops etc.) with a positive post. And more often than not it's met with a big dollop of negativity, both about the business and our town centre. This time around I resisted the urge to share my enthusiasm and say that this looked smart, that it offered a new option for many residents who work late hours as well as the increasing numbers of residences in / near the town cente etc. And - voila! So many positive comments! Lovely to see such a warm welcome. I am taking away some lessons ;-) Thanks to everyone for their views and comments. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

FACEBOOK SUPPRESSES POSTS WITH LINKS SO I'VE ADDED A 'RANDOM' PIC OF WORTHING TO SEE IF IT WILL REACH MORE THAN THE 17 IT REACHED IN HOURS! :-)

Here is a fabulous opportunity to be PART OF THE SOLUTION and to make a real difference in others' lives: A post funded by the government's Connect to Work programme as an Employment Advisor in Adur and Worthing Councils. The job is to support those with complex support needs to prepare for, enter and flourish at work. It's a 3-year post till 31 March 2029, Full Time, salary range £31537 - £36363. Link to the application site below. Good luck!

Gainful employment in good jobs delivers multiple benefits: financial, of course, but also huge wellbeing uplifts. Alan Milburn's interim report - commissioned by the government - on the current state of youth work last week rightfully brought this extremely pressing issue to popular discussions - in research circles on work and employment this has been a massive focus for quite some time.

YES- structural change. YES- big bold initiatives. YES - rethinking institutions. YES - the right policies. YES - adequate resourcing.

AND ALSO - excellent folks on the ground doing amazing work. This job is a great example. For the right person, it's the opportunity to literally improve lives and see the outcomes first hand.

Unlike 'job search' or even entering employment support, Connect to Work offers continued support once in work, and being there for folks until they are solidly in their jobs, growing, enjoying, thriving.

Casework will be small and the impact is yours to make huge. The post will follow a Supported Employment model.

Just for general knowledge - here is how these models generally work - but in this role the focus will be participants with complex neesd; possibly a range of disabilities or other barriers to employment in the past, so it will be for the role holder to specify how the model would be applied.

The 5-Stage Model

Engagement: Proactively reaching out to jobseekers in the community to build trust and raise aspirations.

Vocational Profiling: Creating a personalized plan focusing on a person's skills, strengths, and work preferences rather than their limitations.

Employer Engagement: Working closely with local businesses to secure competitive, market-wage roles.

Job Matching: Carefully pairing the individual's abilities with the specific needs of an employer.

In-Work Support: Providing tailored, ongoing assistance to both the employee and the employer to ensure sustainable career progression.

Caroline has laser sharp vision of priorities and the streamlined cabinet is made up of doers, not sloganeers. Resources are extremely tight but this is a completely dedicated team with seriousness of purpose. Best of luck to them.🌟🌟🌟

New Worthing Borough Council leader Caroline Baxter has named her cabinet and set out her priorities for the next 12 months.

Creating cleaner, greener neighbourhoods, boosting pride in Worthing, supporting local businesses, and continuing improvements to the town centre and seafront will be at the heart of her administration’s agenda over the coming year.

Cllr Baxter also intends to hold regular public Meet the Leader sessions so that she can speak to as many residents as possible, listen to their ideas and hear about the issues that matter the most to them.

As well as being the leader, Cllr Baxter will serve as the cabinet member for regeneration. Cllr John Turley will combine being deputy leader of the council with being the cabinet member for finance and resources.

Cllr Sophie Cox will be the cabinet member for housing, Cllr Dom Ford will be the cabinet member for the communities, culture and leisure, and Cllr Martin McCabe will be the cabinet member for environment.

You can read about Cllr Baxter’s plans as the new leader of the council at https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/worthing-bc/worthing-leader/.

For over a decade I try to get to an evening show at the Connaught Cinema on Sundays. It's an excellent way to brain cleanse for the week ahead and, with tickets half the price of most other theatres' a really affordable way to see a range of films. I often go not knowing anything about what I'm about to see. There have been stretches when I didn't manage to do this for months but I was back today after last week's screening of Sunset Boulevard.

: There could hardly be more enjoyable ways to spend two hours. Delightfully and not saccharine sweet, It's thoughtful, intelligent, evocative, smartly-written, subtly funny and superbly cast /acted. It's got all the makings of "Light Fare" but I think it'll be a classic - the sort you rewatch when you want to feel good about life.

There were 7 or 8 of us at the screening 😞 I hope the word gets out, SOON. Screenings all week next week. GO SEE IT!

A sight to behold last night.

It's very exciting to be so close to the end of the era of mobility systems centred around the internal combustion engine. But classic automobile heritage reminds us how design can be so, so evocative.

Excuse the waffle. I was rather enchanted by stumbling across this scene on our streets. ❤️
