📣Voices United met again last night📣

It was wonderful to see some new faces and, of course, welcome back some of our longer term members. The discussion focused around the Local SEND Reform Plan and how we can get children and young person representatives into working groups, once formed.

We asked for expressions of interest in taking part and as always, our wonderful members showed huge enthusiasm to share the voices of the children and young people of Worcestershire.

There are lots of different reasons why a child or young person may be out of school, and we know every family’s experience is different.

We’re running a short survey to help us better understand what families are experiencing, what support is available, and what could be improved.

Voices United members carried out sensory audits across all CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) sites in Redditch, Worcester, Malvern and Kidderminster. 🏠

Before the visits, members met with Georgina, who ran this project, to learn more about CAMHS and the services provided. Working together, they then co-designed a sensory audit form to use during the visits. 📝

During each audit, members considered their experience from the moment they arrived at the building until they left. They looked at how the environment felt, what they saw, heard and experienced, and identified ways the spaces could be made more sensory-friendly and welcoming for children and young people. 💡

The Co-production Officers are now collating all of the feedback into a report, which will be shared with Georgina and the CAMHS team. 🗣️

Lydia, Myah and Hannah, who are all SEND Peer Advocates, attended an in-person NHS Engagement Strategy meeting hosted by practitioners from the NHS Trust.

During the meeting, the SEND Peer Advocates shared their views and experiences as part of discussions about the future engagement strategy. They contributed to conversations around:

- What should the strategy include? 📝
- What is currently missing? 🗣️
- Who else should we be engaging with? 👥
- What other approaches should we consider? 💡

A summary of the discussions and agreed next steps will be shared with the SEND Peer Advocates to keep them informed about how their feedback has been used and how they can continue to be involved in this work. 🤩
