Sometimes good can come from challenges that knock your life off course. In my case, it’s led me to want to be a councillor!

When you Vote Green, what you get is hardworking councillors who have two vested interests: people and planet.

This is a district election, but I want to address one specific national green policy, because there is so much misinformation about it from other parties in this election.

Greens want to make drugs legal.

Can we all remember that guns are legal in this country too? Legal and HIGHLY REGULATED.

Legal DOES NOT mean freely available to children or for sale in the supermarket. What it means is that by regulating the sale of drugs safely we stop treating vulnerable people who take them as criminals - addiction can be properly treated as a health issue. It means an end to children being groomed to transport drugs across county lines or to sell drugs. It cuts down money that goes to organised crime. Drug trafficking and street dealing would still be illegal. There is evidence from other European countries that it works.

For example, in Portugal a similar policy cut drug deaths by 80% in 20 years.

Inflammatory headlines are there to inflame 🔥 so we turn against each other and stop listening or thinking. 💚

Our housing crisis is not normal, and we can change it. Green-led councils deliver more affordable homes. Unlike all other parties, we haven’t taken donations from housing developers.

Katie Nellist, says: “Vote for Claire because she campaigns tirelessly for equal rights to education for young people with SEND".

I will be meeting Calum Miller tomorrow to discuss the serious concerns parents and young people have shared with me about the proposed changes to the education of children with SEND.

Katie Nellist is a young autistic woman who missed out on most of her secondary school education because of a lack of special education support. As the government consults on reforms to the system, Nellist writes about what must change.
